Only thing I don't understand is why Gettleman wouldn't be looking to restructure guys like Greg Olsen and Charles Johnson or just get it over with in the Smith situation.

On the bright side I do have to admit that teams are vastly overpaying for average prospects. The second wave of free agency will be where the big bargains are where you get guys only slightly less talented but at a fraction of the cost. Teams like the Broncos and the Saints will be in a more extreme version of the cap hell we're facing since they're going all in with heavily back loaded contracts.

what do you think restructuring CJ and Olsen will do for the cap in the next few years?

What if G-man completely screws up and doesn't extend Cam soon enough and doesn't get him weapons or a line soon enough and then Cam decides to go somewhere else out of lack of respect to him and building around him? Then will people still love his "business approach"? I wouldn't even blame Cam in that situation. We'd continue our lack of success for decades and end up being like the Lions and the Browns. Just a month or two ago it looked like we were in a position to be great for years to come... Now? Not so much, very questionable.

You really should just go ahead and kill yourself now....because what if the world were destroyed by an asteroid tomorrow.

The cap will expand exponentially. Even without that in consideration we need to create some more room just to sign a full squad as well as our draft picks. I figure if we grab Nicks for ~$4 million we'd then have basically nothing to fill out a roster or sign our rookies. Even cutting Smith does little, I think one of the three between Olsen, CJ or Godfrey will either restructure, take a pay cut (Godfrey) or be cut (Godfrey).

that still may be in the plans..  I'm not familiar though with how much Gettleman expects the cap to increase and exactly what that number is that he is willing to gamble..
