The Panthers Front Office doesn't care what you think

What captroop said was one of the dumbest, most incomparable commentaries on this situation I've seen here so it's no surprise venom cosigned it

Care to explain how so?

Captroops comments are what business' are all about in the end.

They most certainly are not when you are thinking in practical terms and not trying to contrive some esoteric philosophical justification for being angry that a player you really liked will inevitably be released

This is a concept that I am trying to believe in more and more and get comfortable with because of Dave Gettleman:  You can't look for instant gratification.  And that doesn't mean that you are giving up on this season.  When you are trying to achieve sustained success, you can't fill every hole in the offseason.  You have to find cheap talent, while you build over time.  That is a hard thing to do, but I believe now that it is what you have to do if you don't want to ride the up and down rollercoaster that we have been riding for years.. The best GMs make their money by finding cheap talent, and they don't put the future health of the budget in jeopardy, because they thought they needed someone right now.

Look how much turnover the Patriots have.  They keep the pieces that they believe are gonna be important for sustained success and find a way to replace the others.  It seems like every year, everyone wonders how they are gonna replace the guys that leave or get injured and all they do is go to the playoffs. Thats what the good teams are able to do, and thats what Gettleman is going to do.  So get used to it, because i think everyone will understand it and be happy about it in time..

about exactly how I feel..

And you need to understand business better. Why do people go into business and start businesses? Some do it solely for the money. But some do it for the passion of whatever business it is, for example Sal in the movie "Do The Right Thing." Despite racial tensions, he loved making pizzas and seeing children in the neighborhood grow up on his food. Another reason for going into business is to provide a good or service to help people. Why is the NFL successful? The only reason is the fans and that's why the NFL is much worse now than it was before. All fans are complaining about the new rules and preventing defenses from hitting hard without getting a penalty, yet Goodell is doing nothing about it. I don't think there's a single NFL fan who honestly likes Goodell. NFL teams can be businesses focused on winning, but the #1 priority is to make the fan base happy. They're paying the bills. If the majority of the Panthers fans would rather have Smith and no guaranteed Super Bowl (and that's what it seems like) than no Smith and a Super Bowl, then that would be the right decision, regardless of what it means for the teams chances at winning. Which is right? It's all a matter of opinion and it's a tough decision, but what the fans want IS the most important thing. JR has understood that, and Hurney understood that (but that was his fatal flaw because he completely abused it and overdid it and handed out terrible contracts). The tough part of being a GM is putting together a squad that is respectable with decisions making the fans happy, and also being successful in the win category. There's a reason a lot of people hate the Patriots and their fans... And it's not because they win. It's because they are a classless franchise and classless fans who don't care about loyalty to players. If benching Brady and then cutting him meant them winning a Super Bowl, they'd be all in. Gettleman right now is making us like the Patriots, and I can't stand it. I don't care about winning if you win without any class. There is a way to balance it, and many teams have done it and been successful with Super Bowl wins.

This is one of the worst posts I've read on this board and that's saying a lot.

The people that hate the Patriots are either jealous of their success or they are fans of a team that gets kicked in the dick regularly by the Patriots. Their fans are classless because they are douchenozzles from the Northeast, not because of how their front office operates. And how could you say we're turning into the Patriots and mean it as something bad. My God, we should be so lucky. I'm not even going to start on using a Spike Lee movie as a reference to prove anything. Zoix! (That's a Scooby-Doo reference. Way more pertinent.)

failed miserably. They Gettledouche could have handled it better than the way he did.

This is why it will always be so hard to take Panther fans seriously. Growing up in the NY and NJ area all the fans are so passionate and just want to win. Then here you have people calling Gettleman gettledouche. Gettledouche is the same guy who found players like Mike Mitchell last year and turned this team into NFC South Champions.

Get over it seriously. Gettlemana number 1 priority should be to win and not care what you guys think. Steve Smith is the best Panther ever absolutely no argument out of me. At the same he is 35 and declining. The front office wants to build a core with Cam. If Gettledouche as this idiot called him thinks its best without Smitth then I'm all for it. Get over this country club mentality some of you guys have. It really is a joke that some of you act like this.

Congratulations, your post said absolutely nothing.

And you assume a lot. It's not about emotional attachment. It's about treating Smitty with the decency that he deserves. He MADE this franchise, and was the face of it for a majority of its existence...and now they're tossing him to the curb like they couldn't care less.

And now because of this, our receiving situation is a free for all. We literally have no one we can rely on.

So to those who keep saying it's a business decision, here is a business analogy for you: You own a restaurant. And to save a couple thousand dollars per month, you cut your most popular item (Did I say most popular? I meant all-time best selling, Michelin star rated, and Zagat reviewed dish) from the menu, and replace it with...well nothing basically. You've promised the customers that you're going to replace it with something similar eventually, but something much cheaper, and you're not really sure of the quality. So yeah, you saved a couple bucks, but you just gave a HUGE middle finger to your customers. But even so, you expect them to come back and keep shelling out money like they used to, because hey! After all it's the same restaurant isn't it?

Business.

If my most popular item:

(1) tastes worse than it used to and, if it continued to be featured as my best dish, would disappoint future customers,

(2) has poor margins,

(3) prevented me from improving the quality of my restaurant by tying up capital that could be used for more productive investments,

(4) was going to be replaced in the next fiscal year or two anyway,

then yes I would SERIOUSLY consider replacing that item, especially if I could not figure out a way to make it less capital intensive for me to keep it and I had confidence in my other menu items.  Then again, if you have no confidence in your chef or your manager, then by all means keep serving your dish that was a big hit ten years ago but that is showing clear signs of disappointing performance and see how long you retain those Michelin stars.
