The Panthers Front Office doesn't care what you think

It was clearly an exaggeration, I'm just saying if the fans would rather keep Smith and not win a SB than get rid of him and have a better chance, then that's the right decision.

If you think there are more Panthers fans that would prefer a hypothetical non-SB team with Smitty on it over a hypothetical SB team without him, you are delusional.

He forgot to mention that this is the bizarro restaurant business where there is a hard cap on how much each one can spend and dishes become eligible to field offers from other restaurants every few years.

Not trying to go too far down this rabbit hole, but there is a cap on how much you can spend on your ingredients. It's called a budget.

Replacing Smitty is one thing (and frankly I doubt you would find a better alternative)., making a move that leaves us with NO receivers is entirely another.

The fact is, we aren't going to make a spashy free agency WR pick-up. We can't afford it. We aren't exactly in position to grab a top WR. So my analogy assumes that we have gotten rid  of our last even remotely viable receiver, and we intend to replace him with a WR who will HAVE to step in and be a day 1, #1 WR (good luck with that with a pick in the late 20s) and a bunch of bargain basement WRs who manage to avoid being snapped up by other franchises. And we have to build our stable of receivers, AND a starting caliber O-Line with a handful of draft picks, and no money.

That, my friend, sucks.

I agree, it sounds bad.  But there is still time, and my point was that I believe this was a decision that was well thought out.  After all, you explained the situation, and I'm sure they knew all of these things.  Gettleman has a plan, trust me.

Everyone was really scared that our secondary would suck going into the season, and it worked out better than anyone imagined.

Different restaurants have different budgets based upon revenue and owner choice but that has nothing to do with a salary cap. That's like saying the cost of ingredients for CiCi's is the same as for the French Laundry in Napa Valley.

So in this world where the restaurant business is just like the NFL do all these chain restaurants like Fridays and Applebee's get together and pool their finances with a revenue sharing agreement for the collective prosperity of all restaurant chains?

Oh my God...they cut an aging 35 yo WR whose production is declining.  And some immature fans are whining about it because they think that their "favorite player of all time" should be paid millions until that player is ready to leave on their terms.

Most of you don't have the business acumen to run a lemonade stand in your driveways.

Carry on

Again, Einstein, it's the timing. There's nobody here to replace him. I think everyone here with any sense knew this day would come within the next 2 years; I just don't care for the way that they did it and it doesn't look like they have a plan in place. Do you honestly believe that the Panthers have improved since the start of FA?

Not the same.  You can go over budget and it only impact the profitability.  You cannot go over the cap....it is a hard ceiling.

Bad analogy

There is nobody to replace him YET...that is the difference.  We are 24 hrs into FA and the draft has not happened.  Over reaction and knee jerk reactions are the recipe of the day for the Huddle.

We are 24 hours into FA.  We have not done anything yet.  You assume that we won't do anything at all....which is why you are over reacting right now.

The secondary benefitted from an amazing front 7. Outside of Mitchell, and to an extent Captain, all that really happened is we were able to disguise the mediocrity of our secondary with the fiercest pass rush I've seen in Panthers history.

I know it's thought out, and I know it's early. I'm just really pessimistic of our chances to adequately fill all of our gaps on offense in the time, and more importantly, with the money we have at our disposal. Basically we will need to repeat the same thing we did with the secondary last year, and disguise our offense somehow.

Basically I imaging Cam being Bugs Bunny playing all the entire positions himself.
