Well. He is. Otherwise he would have cut the guy yesterday and let him make a FA splash rather than start talking crap about what has been the best player in Panther's history. Distraction???? Holding Smitty right now for what reason? Trade? We all have read and know that this is simply not going to happen. What Gettleman doesn't realize is other FA are very aware of the treatment in Carolina. All our FA are moving on not to mention most of our entire OL retired....wonder how much pressure Gettleman put on the OL to retire?

Don't think of it in loyalty or money regards, because neither is an issue here. Smith is being shown the door all because of the locker room.

I don't have a problem with this decision if they feel it's best for the team, but I do have a problem with the way this is being handled. There was absolutely no reason to be so transparent at the combine when they were asked about Smitty and that would have allowed them to conduct this business in a much more private and dignified manner. Smitty deserves better. If you have decided to move on then release the man and let him choose his next team on his own terms... he's earned that. As much as I like Smith, "I won't take a pay cut" and "I want to get my numbers" do not scream team loyalty.

 

So far, the only person that said he wouldn't be a Panther next year was his agent. If SS wanted to play here next year, it would happen.
