Steve Smith Will Not Be In a Panthers Uniform Next Season

Recommended Posts

Antonio Brown, Dez Bryant, Jordy Nelson, Anquan Boldin...these are all good receivers that do a lot for their team, and are all in the $2-$4MM range. IMO this is where Smitty should be at this point. If he is unwilling, then you need to move on. We can't pay him like he is Julio Jones or AJ Green anymore because he simply isn't that player.

Antonio is $9 mil against the cap next year and ballooning from there...

it appears you found a couple players who did what SS did in 2012 and are using their cap relief years as an example of what should be at, when the reality is he was there and gave the Panthers the relief, now it's time for him to get paid.

fug Gettleman and the rest of you "smart phone" GM's that think this was handled correctly.

When Hurney was here, 90% of these guys ran around blatting about what a good drafter he was, about how they liked that our organization was a friendly one, they pulled for the players, etc. etc.

Now that Gettleman rode Hurney's team to a blowout playoff loss at home, anything he says for a few years will be mimicked to death, Once Gettleman is shitcanned, they'll remove his penis, grab the next guys and the cycle will go on.

You read to deep into my posts young grasshopper. I wasn't comparing him to those players, every single one of them is way better than Smitty at this point in their respective careers, I was simply pointing out contract sizes, and what Smitty should be making at this point.

Yeah..see....that's simply not true.

Boldin is on Smiths level and scheduled to make Smith's money next year.

Jordy is not there and may never be....Aaron Rodgers is all I have to say...just look at Jennings now...LOL

Antonio is not....maybe one day.

Dez I will give you, but he is still not the leader or #1 WR Smith is as far as the intangibles. Smith makes Cam better period!

Cheesus fuging Crust what are you not understanding I said in no way, shape or form am I comparing Smitty to any of those players I mentioned or what year of their deal they are in or how much they will get paid later.

I found four players that have a cap hit of $2-$4MM and said that is what Smitty should be at this point in his career. That is all. There is no deeper meaning. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake.

Supposedly the FO didn't ask him to restructure...

Oh.

there litterally could be a dozen reasons behind that. most dont think of the why, they just see that we didnt and flip out.

Smith is about to be 35, I dont have a problem with it, mainy becuase if he was here next year I'd be surprised if he broke 600 yrds next year

What I was getting at is that once the ball is in Smith's hands nothing prevents him from making a play with it.  The offense can't really be blamed for his average yards after catch dropping from 6.0 to 2.8 or 20+ yard catches dropping from 29 to 4 over the last two years..  He's not the same player he was no matter what style of offense we're running.

Teeray mentioned the YAC above. It's a good point. I also agree he's not the same player, though it's weird to be saying that barely a year after he went for 1,134. The crux is has he lost enough to deserve being cut? In my opinion, no, for a variety of reasons. Others have different opinions. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective) only one guy's really matters.

Tried to tell everyone that it was never about money, if it was they would have asked him to restructure an they never did. This was always about smith in the locker room. Which should tell you about how the younger guys felt about the way he acted in the locker room.

You can't compare their 2-4 mm cap hit and say that's what Smitty should be at. He was there for the last couple years and now his contract has hit the pay me phase...just like the Antonio and Boldin contracts will do NEXT year. It is not a correct comparison. If you want to do this then look at 2012 or 2013 SS contract and compare it to these guys...then they are making the same $....that is all.

Ok. I'm done discussing this with you. If you don't think every single one of those guys I mentioned is at this point in their careers a better player than Smitty then you are just an emotional wreck and logic has left the building entirely. I'm sorry you are so upset and suggest you get help from friends, family or professionals during these troubling times because I'd hate to see something bad happen to such a nice young man.

That is all. I'm done. Have a nice day. Get well soon.
