Steve Smith Will Not Be In a Panthers Uniform Next Season

Recommended Posts

I've (finally) come to grips with losing our GOAT.  I'm a fan of Gettleman admittedly, but I must say this whole thing has not been handled well at all.  It just keeps getting messier and messier.  Just make the damn cut already and quit dragging this out.

I will hold me official opinion until I see who are our WRs at the start of the season.... you don't go through all of this to not sign anyone especially if you think your team's leader is a QB that you should build around. I'm not mad at DG "yet!" Nick and another vet must be coming or Nicks and a Smitty restructure is. Also retaining Ginn either way.

This is why pride is one of the deadliest sins. Look what it does to you. Smitty could have said I've made a lot of money and have interned for Charles fuging Schwab so I know I won't piss it away, so sure I'll take a paycut down to $3.5MM to help the team. Instead it's gonna end up with him signing on another team for $2MM 1 year and us paying him $7MM and forever souring the legacy.

Jesus what a dumpster fire this has become.

Smith, please play it cool and just retire and coach for us. Stay with the team, help cam mature, stay with your family in Charlotte, and try to win the big one as a Panther, even if it's not as a player. You've got all the money you need, your health, and if you just retire now this situation would cool down a whole lot. Sad sad sad day, and I hate Gettleman for this, but it can be made okay.

AT LEAST TRADE HIM. DONT RELEASE HIM! I KNOW WE CAN GET AT LEAST A

5TH ROUND PICK FOR HIM

Sent from my SGH-T399 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

Have you not read a single one of the posts, articles, tweets, headlines that say his chance of being traded od virtually zero?

He took huge up front and guaranteed payments....he converted future base to a bonus.  That is not taking one for the team.  That is actually a big benefit for the player.

Go play in rush hour trafic....fuging moron.

The only way it is a big benefit for the player is if he gets to receive those $7 and $9 million per season payouts....SS knew that he wouldn't be playing for that type of money in 2015 and 2016...everyone knew it. So, SS did help the team in the immediate 2012 future. His cap numbers dropped by almost $4 million and allowed the Panthers to sign other players.

baaaaaaaahhh

We're now in rebuild mode for those of you who don't see it. No CBs, no WRs, no safeties, no OL, no effort to resign those who got us where we did last season. Instead, Gettleman's just sitting there with his thumb up his ass trying to trade the Panther GOAT.

So, I feel the same way. I think we're now getting ready to re-tool for 2015. I think Gettleman is prepared to take a season to get our cap straightened out and the prospects into place.

    • Agreed on the last part. They can’t afford to lose all these games with Martin and Perets.
    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
    • People here get mad when I tell them I prefer Miracle Whip over Dukes
