Steve Smith Will Not Be In a Panthers Uniform Next Season

Recommended Posts

Ummm no DG is not a Dick. The guy is just doing his job. It ain't an easy thing to do. If you think you can do better then go apply for the GM job. I'm sure you could do better job. Right? I doubt it. It's business plain and simple.

That is BS. He should have not been informed by the media that his career was over as a Panther. That is classless

No but I do believe delaying the inevitable saves us money this year. Money signs players. Players win games.

It's not just about smitty. I think you misunderstood my reply.

I believe keeping smith for cheaper and getting some quality players with the money he saved could win us a SB.

Except he would only just end up being more expensive the next season.  And the next season.  And the next season.  You can't just keep delaying the inevitable when we have so many studs we will eventually need to secure long-term contracts with.

Delaying stuff is what got us into this predicament in the first place.  If we keep Smith, people will just moan about the $10m he will cost us next season.  And they will moan when we struggle to re-sign key players.

And if we don't win the Super Bowl, then what?  We are going to be in the same situation next year except with an even older, more expensive Smith.

2 years ago he renegotiated and took much less money so the Panthers could sign other players......he has played lights out the last 3 years even though he only had 800 yards last season...it was a new offense that did not concentrate on the pass....SS has EARNed that money and he is now getting pissed on.

Gettleman just went way down in my book.

Damn, you are still as ignorant as ever.

Steve did NOT talk less money 2 years ago.  He signed a contract that had huge up front guaranteed payments that could be spread out over the cap.  That contract had hudge back end cap numbers that no one....including Smith himself would have legitumately thought would be paid.  He did NOT take one for the team.

Restructuring now (outside of an outright paycut) woudl do nothing more than make the cap hit for the next two seasons even bigger than they are.

So, will you be switching team allegiances and joining another team's MB?  We can only hope.

Joe Person ‏@josephperson  30s

People close to Smith have said the thought of him playing in the NFC South and getting two cracks at Panthers is very enticing.

well that's phenomenal news.

Unless he is playing for the Saints, then he is selling his self short....he deserves a shot at a Superbowl....not Gettleman....screw Gettleman....go get your RING Smitty!!

Handled very poorly.  This is a shame.  Gettleman did/does some great things but this is almost embarrassing.

Of course if we're winning next season all of this will be quickly forgotten about and we'll all think he's a genius in the end.  If we suck next year the pressure will increase on Gettleman for completely blowing this and making a horrible decision.

He wasn't.

All Gettleman said was that everyone was being evaluated.

Smith and many on here are just being pissy little bitches about this.

For Smitty, I don't think he would care about that at this point. He would want to make sure we regretted this. The chip on his shoulder would become a boulder, and we'd be in a horrible situation for two games a year.
