Nicks reps and Panther reps talking.....

you don't know that for certain. And who else could we sign right now?

A lot of people keep dismissing this signing if it happens. Who would you sign that could give us a boost?

I'd keep Steve Smith and re-sign Ted Ginn, let LaFell walk and draft a young WR early.  They've already got some other young receivers on the roster they are developing, why spend a bunch of money on Nicks when he's been struggling the last two seasons?  It's a big risk.  I'd rather them take the money they would be spending on a WR and sign a vet LT like Anthony Collins.  If Cam has time to throw, he can make do with average WR talent for now.  Who is blocking for Cam is WAY more important than who he's throwing to.

Nicks has never been nearly as injured as you guys are making out. He's missed, what, 2-3 games a year?

People act like he misses half the season.

Also idk how many people actually follow PFF, but I'm pretty sure that Nicks is their 2nd highest graded WR ever during the Giants 2011 Superbowl run. During that playoff run he had 28 receptions, 444 yards, 15.86 yards per reception, and 4 TD's in 4 games.

1. Hakeem Nicks

2013 Grade: +0.1
2013 Snaps: 845

Hakeem Nicks headlines the 2014 Free Agent wide receivers. In 2013 Nicks had his worse season as a pro, however that does not take away from what he has shown since entering the league in ’09. What separates Nicks from all the other free agents is that he has shown the ability to be one of the upper-tier WRs. In the 2011 playoffs Nicks had 28 receptions for 445 yards (205 YAC) and graded out at +7.6, which is the second highest grade we have given out for a WR in the playoffs.

Nicks has shown great ability, but the past two seasons has been hampered with multiple injuries. The biggest question mark is if the two years when he has been hurt will slow him down, or if he is able to recover and become the threat he showed in his first three seasons. Nicks is a player who has never shown the ability to take the top of a defense, instead he’s a dangerous intermediate threat who can make things happen after the catch.

If Nicks can come into the 2014 season with full health he can be a major addition to any team. He is the one WR in this class who has the ability to play at an elite level and could provide a boost to any passing attack. Any team who gives him big money will have to hope he is back to his best and that he can stay on the field.

steve smith is 35 years old and limped off the field in the playoff game.

but you would rather take that 10 mill then 12 million dollar hit over a guy that is 26 who has had injury issues but would be considerably less?

i agree resigning Ginn would be good and drafting a young WR early would be good.

and why do people keep saying "spend a bunch of money" on Nicks? we have no idea at this point what the deal will be.

If they can get him for cheap I'm all for it, but Nicks won't be cheap.  They need Steve next year, then they can cut him.  If you sign Nicks for cheap you can just double down on the O-Line in the draft and take a WR in the 1st next year...but they'll be going BPA so who knows who they'll take.  I just know I'd rather have a stacked O-Line over WR's any day.  Look at Atlanta - Matt Ryan almost got killed last year.  Cam's hoodini scrambles will only work so long until he blows out his knee.

I agree except get rid of Ginn as an option at #2, because he's not an option as a #2 receiver.

I put him there because we really just don't have anyone else. Unless you're willing to give McNutt or King a chance.

I feel like Rice would be a good 3-4 option until we know he can get healthy and stay healthy

we can't afford 12 million dollars for a 37 year old wide reciever when we have Cam and Luke's contracts coming up. Blame Hurney he constructed these contracts so ass backwards.

people want Cam to have weapons. Smitty's contract is going to take away from that. poo smitty's contract next year and the year after will take away from what we can pay Cam. It fuging sucks, but thats the kind of poo Hurney pulled.

and i think Nicks will be moderately inexpensive.....we should find out soon anyway.

Haha that reminds me of Delhomme just throwing it up for 89 to grab.

I know man! This dude has some hands! I don't care what anyone says he has hands. Actually cris carter did a special on ESPN one time talking about him possibly having the best hands in the nfl. He is a huge upgrade at the WR position any way you flip it.
