Nicks reps and Panther reps talking.....

You would pay this guy $6 mill per year after an 800 yard season with 0 TDs???

Wow.

There were a lot of factors not having to do with NIcks that led to his last two years being down. The dude has the talent to be a top 5 receiver and if we got him to play to his potential at $6M/year then we'd have the biggest snag of any offensive player not on a rookie contract in the entire league. If G-man were to sign him to a deal like that, I'd trust him because he knows Nicks' potential better than anybody here. I'm just curious what he's thinking in terms of a long term deal, since he said he doesn't want a 1 year deal... And signing him to $6M/year would be a lot better than signing him to 1 year $4M or something like that and then he plays lights out 1500 yards, 12+ tds, and walks because we can't afford to pay him.

Got it.  You are a potential guy....I like that.

Do you want to cut SS too?

Funny how I see alot of people that were against trading for a guy like Josh Gordon, are on board with bringing in a guy like Nicks who from reports may be more of a headache than Gordon.

Gordon had tons of off the field issues....Nicks has none of those.

The possible issue with Nicks is around past injuries.

Nicks takes a toke and he gets a slap on the wrist. Gordon takes a toke and he's suspended for a year. To quote Jules from Pulp Fiction, "That's not even the same fuging thing. It ain't even the same ball park."

Don't believe everything you hear on twitter. I saw a post yesterday that Carolina had traded Steve Smith to New England, New England traded Ryan Mallet to the Texans, and Carolina got the #33 pick. Haven't seen any reputable source verify this.

You should have read that guys entire timeline and you would have known it was just a joke. He was throwing out silly bullshit all day.

I said it from day 1 of speculation, give up a 1st rounder for Gordon if need be. He's that damn good.

Look at some of my other posts... I couldn't be more against cutting Smitty. And even if Nicks played to 2/3 or 3/4 of his potential, $6M would be worth it.

Being fined multiple times for being late to team meetings and just blowing off medical treatment appointments might be seen as off field issues.

Of course it is Coughlin and he has been known to fine players for being 5 mins early to a meeting. (the old Coughlin at least)

As long as you have a good, stable nucleus, it's actually better to do it that way in most cases. There will always be players in a slump making it to free agency, that don't have the leverage to ask for a long term deal but offer tremendous upside. Also most of the time you give a guy a long term deal it results in dead money. I can only imagine what teams like the bucs and bears are paying for guys like peppers and revis to not be playing on their team anymore.

In nicks' case I think he offers enough upside to give a two year deal to.
