Again I don't think letting Smith walk had anything to do with Play or Money. So it doesn't matter who is on the team Steve Smith won't be.

My question is... if we got Nicks, would it be more or less beneficial to have Smitty on the roster with him.

I would be freaking stoked if we signed Nicks, Rice (anything he gives us is a huge bonus), and keep Smitty. Could you imagine a healthy Nicks and Rice lining up on the outside (Nicks 6-1, Rice 6-4) with Smitty in the slot and Olsen at TE... not to mention DeAngelo, Stewart, and Tolbert all being good pass catchers. Jeez... I mean we wouldn't quite have the elite weapons of the Falcons, Broncos, Bears, etc but it would be plenty of weapons for Cam to be able to make more throws. It would also allow us to focus on OL, CB, and S in the draft, although I still wouldn't be opposed to taking a Jordan Matthews, Moncrief, Robinson, Adams, etc in the 2nd or 3rd. Despite other teams getting better and some of our players leaving/retiring it could end up being a great off season for us. Last year our defense was ready for prime time (although realistically we needed a top notch #1 corner imo), but our offense simply didn't have enough explosive weapons to put up consistent offense. With Cam and those guys that I mentioned... man we could be in for a real treat next year!

Still believe smitty is gone.  But, I would also be stoked with a receiving corps of Nicks, Rice, Olsen, and any number of rookies that could be taken in the first or second round.
