Nicks reps and Panther reps talking.....

What's sad is that we don't know anything. No real, credible news about meeting with Nicks or anyone else at this point.

Our beat writers are useless, our GM is silent and speculation is the only thing we have to go on.

Well rappaport is a pretty decent insider and he said this is the most likely place he'll land. But we'll see

FWIW, Marc James said he got a text from Nicks saying that he is in negotiations with a couple of teams and said Panthers were one but was told to stay quiet about it

And then Marc James ratted him out on national radio about it.

What a stand up guy

Welcome to the media....where the only thing that matters is ratings.  Most journalists would rat out their mother and sell their first born child to break a story.

What are you basing this on?

Just a hunch, which is why I added the I think to the front. If I get concrete information "doubtful" I'll post it.

I've been right a few times on contract information and it's been posted on here. Expect a 4 year deal, very unlikely that he signs a 1 year deal.

I think Carolina wanted to quietly keep the option to cut Smith because they had their sights on a free agent WR, probably Nicks, but didn't want to cut Smith prior to having ink on paper with a WR they liked to "replace" him. There is no urgency in cutting Steve, but Steve and his agent obviously want to speed up the process because the longer he goes without being cut the more the money dries up as teams start to commit to other options.

I think once Steve realized that he was Plan B at absolute best, he decided to use his agent to push the issue about saying he wouldn't be playing in Carolina regardless next season so that the Panthers felt the urgency to cut him and allow him to find a new place to play.

I think the target has and will continue to be Nicks, and Smith's decision to go public about not being here next year has added an extra layer of urgency.

Something like this. Lol

I think the Panthers top two targets in Fa are Rice and Nicks.
