The Huddle has split.....Once Again

Tagging Hardy and cutting Smitty along with getting the RBs off the books in 2015 make room to sign Cam, sign Hardy to a longer deal, and give us more room to go after FAs.

I'm glad you made that statement. I'm not talking about you personally, but just want to use your post as an example. What I'm tired of seeing is the flip floppers that mold their argument to whatever the team is doing. You either believe cutting Steve Smith is the wrong or right move.

Stick to your guns. Don't say by cutting Steve Smith, Gettleman is doing the right thing and then if he doesn't get cut try to change your argument.

Gentleman is human and only in his second offseason as a GM. He has a lot to learn just like anyone else new to a job. That means he's not going to always make the right decisions and the right moves. He ain't perfect, nobody walking this earth is. So when people disagree with his actions and choices know that it's not like we are arguing against the gospel.

I think that most of us, like myself, are just fans and want what we feel is best for the/our team, with of course different views. For instance, I'm 100% against getting rid of Steve Smith and I wasn't 100% for franchising Hardy. It's not that I don't believe that Hardy is worth it, it's just that we couldn't afford it, but then again, keeping our d-line intact was a large part of our success last year.

I agree, I'm really looking forward to the draft and FA signings but I just completely disagree with Smitty getting cut if it comes to that. I'm not being pessimistic but for a team that was just 2 wins away from the Super Bowl we should do absolutely nothing to mess with the makeup of that locker room from last season. We've already lost Gross, now Mitchell and if Smitty goes too we won't be able to handle it.

I'm confused...what is my post an example of? Have I flipped flopped?

Not to my knowledge. I just used your post because you're one of the ones that believe cutting Steve is a good idea. You've laid it out there what you believe the right moves are. So if Gettleman doesn't cut Steve Smith, to you he's then making the wrong move correct?

Yeah but is it ok for me to think that you're right, but hope that you're wrong...

Don't forget about 5 offensive linemen

Not necessarily....I don't want Smitty to be cut.  I don't think I would say it's a "good idea" either.  It's hard as hell to lose your all-time favorite player.....in any situation.  I am comfortable, however, thinking about the entire situation objectively and understanding the benefits of cutting ties with Steve.  Taking the emotion out of it and understanding the short and long term benefits is the only way to deal with the business side of football.  I will be very happy if we find a way to make it work with Steve.  There's nothing I want more than to see him finish his career as a Panther.  But I also realize there are benefits to releasing him that will put the team in a much better position in 2015 to do what we need to do to be great.  So...you can call it flip-flopping or whatever.  I'll call it being mature, understanding the situation (as much as I can), and not letting my emotions make me act like a damn fool like many others are doing.

I think it's hard to watch the F/A portion of building a team, especially with the cap space we have. the Hardy signing indicates that we are not going after any big names on defense, but then our issue last year is being 29th in the league in passing yards. Gman will have bolster the offense to get to balanced team and that appears to be through the draft or value buys in the F/A market.

We can expect another year of a soft secondary but spend our capital well on moving up the points per game, its going to take some great talent evaluations and contract renegotiating (c'mon #89) to get there.

but it is frustrating and this freaking division has a history of last to first every year, so it makes sense that the huddle is concerned and even hurt as major changes have to happen for next year and down the road. I really hope Smitty wakes up and is open to being #2 but it's up to him to decide what his legacy is...

I would bet that we move up to the middle of the pack in points per game next year but drop in over all D, but still are in the playoffs...and maybe even score more then 10 points...you gotta score to win and to do that we have to make some hard decisions and last years team wasn;t the answer for the future.

I am probably one of the few to be excited to see what our team will look like.  The uncertainty of knowing who will be on our roster is unpleasant but the changes that have been made since Gettleman's been here have been positive.  Like a lot of you I don't like the possibility of losing Steve, but I would also cut my grandma if it got me to where my team needed to be to hold up the Lombardi.  I am willing to give the organization the benefit of the doubt when it come to the time it takes to fill the holes that we have so we look more like the Patriots in the win column year in and year out.
