I wont be pissed if we sign Nicks. but i do have concerns. as ive said before its not 100% eli/giants fault that nicks stunk it up. nicks and his injury issues are just as much to blame. its really hard to justify  56 receptions and not being able to get atleast one in the endzone.  hes one of the best options out there, but it still a shaky one...

Nicks sucked last year...but hes still more talented than any reciever on our roster not named smith

FAP. But, I still hope we find a way to restructure Smitty so he can be a apart of this Superbowl championship.

 

Well he hasn't been cut yet... I doubt any team is willing to trade for him so we'd have no reason to not cut him today if we are actually going to cut him. I suspect Smitty's giving in to renegotiating his contract. Seems like the most likely reason for him not getting cut today. I don't buy the trade crap, because no team in the league would trade for him.

of course Nicks has some knocks against him, if he was coming off a 1600 yard all pro season he'd command $10+ million a year and we wouldn't be able to afford him

 

this is just about the best situation we're going to find given his potential vs what we can afford

fair enough.

I have State friends who went to state and hate UNC passionately - they do not want Eric Ebron. Especially with the amount of NCSU trolling Ebron partaked in on twitter and the whole logo thing after UNC won there a few months ago.

I don't think Ebron will realistically be available when we pick, but James Hurst, the UNC OT is a guy they may want to take a hard look at in the 2nd/3rd round.

Hurst would be fine by me. I actually never heard of him till the game against UNC and I noticed him beasting.

Honestly I don't care what Ebron did. It is a college rivalry. Once he puts on a pro uniform that's all in the past.

I know fans of the other schools that still dislike the water boys from the other schools. Although that intensity is more prevalent in basketball than football.

Lol. That's why I specified football.

You're 100% right though. ACC College basketball has much more hatred amongst the fans of the four Carolina teams.

I do believe they have explored all options but, I wonder if the meeting with JR was less about being released or traded as has been rumored, and more about giving him a chance to stay if he'd adjust his contract? Maybe it took him a day to come around to it (today).

That's exactly what I hope is the case. Smith may have needed some time to think about it and maybe his family even convinced him into taking a pay cut to stay in Charlotte without having to either uproot them or not see them nearly as often if he played somewhere else.
