the reason behind all of this BS happening is...

Those are both ridiculous points. Hurney royally screwed this franchise with his dumbass contracts. DG is doing what is right...for the first time possibly since their start the panthers are being run by a competent GM.

So if he ends up not releasing or trading Smitty is he then doing what is wrong? If your not a flip flopper your answer would be yes, but since I'm sure you are then you will probably agree with anything gettleman does. Comical

It's not Hurney trying to run our only receiver under contract out of town. He's gone, and has been gone for some time now.

Your right Hurney wouldnt "run Steve out of town".  And Hurney would have been wrong.  Everyone generally believes you should get paid what you are worth.  But not Steve Smith.  Roll him out in a wheelchair and pay him 7 million because he is the "heart and soul".

You know that's not at all what I said.

I agree that his contract is too high, the best option is to rework it and keep him around at a reasonable price.

Smith is done.  And nothing in his performance the last two years leads me believe otherwise.  Its pathetic that our number 1 target with Cam throwing the ball put up 750 and 4, is 35 and we have people that think there is a "reasonable price" that isnt less than a million.   You thinked we let 1200 yard and 10 TD out the door the way people are crying.  Lafell put up 620 and 5 on less targets, you expect to hear something about that.

It's ludicrus to have 10 million + in cap room used on B level RB's at best.  How much cap room would we clear if we cut them?  I'm no expert on contracts, but we are paying our RB's way too much.  Williams is old and Stewart can't stay healthy and RB's have little value.

Smith needs to go too.  I understand he was the heart and soul of the franchise, but that only got us 750 yards and 4 TD's this year, and next year he will only be a year older.  This is a business. It might not be the popular thing to do, but it's a mistake IMO for franchises to overpay declining veterans out of loyalty.  I think everyone is thankful for what Smith has done but it's time to move on.

Gettleman is doing exactly what he needs to be doing.  Clearing the overpaid, taking care of our young stars, and building through the draft.

Free Angency is way overvalued.  The 49ers, Patriots, Seahawks all build through the draft.  Remember a few years ago when the Eagles signed all those free agents and everyone was talking about Dream Team?  That didn't work out so well.

I would like us to sign a bargain corner and receiver, then possibly a vertan LT.  Draft a WR, T, and CB with our first three picks and this team will be ready to make a run in 2014.

Last I checked nobody put up eye popping numbers last year in this Mike Shula offense.

If you think putting up Lafell's numbers alone somehow compare to Steve Smith's production last year then I don't know what to tell you. Go look up how many touchdowns Lafell had in the last 5 games of the season, and how many catches, and yards he had in the game that Steve Smith wasn't on the field to take pressure off of him.

No one put up numbers because we didnt have anyone that could.

Pretty much any reciever that went over a 1000 yards last year would have got a 1000 here.  People dont want to hear it but Lafell was every bit as good or bad as Smith was last year.  You figure he could get a quarter of the crying.
