"You have to have sustained success in this league.." - DG

Gucci Mane

Recommended Posts

He has said this a few times this offseason, stating that you obviously want to win alot of games every year and not win 12 one year and 5 the next and back to 12 the following season [obviously].

I also realize he has to say this and all that PC stuff, but he's not marty hurney and actually knows a thing or two about evaluating football talent. So when he puts his name on a statement like that, I would assume he would go to hell and back to achieve it. Being cap strapped this year didnt come as a surprise to him, hes known this since he started evalulating the team a year ago.

So to those saying he doesn't have some sort of plan or contingency plan are just flat out idiots. He knows our Oline is poo, he knows we have no receivers or secondary. I'm assuming he'll be able to get CJs cap number down to about 9-10-11, i was hoping smitty would be open to a pay cut to save another 3 or so, godfrey should certainly restructure if not cut, not to mention a few other moves that would free up close to $13-15 million. I know thats not easy to do because thats assuming the players want to help out the team this year and some people just want their money. Even with that extra cap space it would be hard to re-sign mitchell, ginn, and capt and still have money left over but it would certainly be better than our current situation moving forward.

at any rate, Gettleman has his work cut out for him if he wants to have the "sustained success" he refers to but don't think for one second hes just winging it as the days pass. hes got options and he has a team around him that will assist/critique every step of the way. hes not holding an xbox controller playing career mode on madden.

I don't think it is a rebuild at all and we will be very competitive.  If you look across the NFL landscape most teams are releasing a significant number of starters. More than the usual. This is basically the result of overpaying players which all teams did. The teams that have overpaid the most are paying the price now.

What DG is doing now is making sure we don't have any problems going forward.

Really because it feels a whole lot like this is a rebuild.

offensive rebuild....

which btw people had been screaming for. the smith situation is really what is putting a damper on people moods about all this...understandably.

we build the offense around Cam, Kalil and Olsen. That's fuging it.

besides smitty, are people genuinely surprised or unhappy about this?

So we ended up with a bottom 10 offense and people are pissed we are making big changes.  Maybe I am the crazy one but folks should be very excited we are addressing our issues and wide receiver was a big issue.  We need a number 1 and number 2 receiver not a former number 1 receiver who can only play the slot.

I understand that until we sign a few guys everyone is going to be worried but look what he did with the defense last year.  That is what we are going to do with the offense this year.

As for Steve, he is one of my all time favorite players.  But I knew this day was coming just not today.  It is sad but if not today then surely after this year.  He is going on 35.  I am glad I was there to witness the last TD he will make for the Panthers.  I hope frankly he doesn't make that many against the Panthers.

I don't know this kinda feels like hes taking a page from what happened to the Giants a few years back. They had a young Qb with a bunch of loud vets , who got the boot. ( Barber, Shockey, Etc etc) Just to help give Eli a voice in the locker room, maybe thats whats going on here. Either that or the G-man is Ego Trippin.

I agree - that's why we're going with Byron Bell and Marvin McNutt.

It's funny how Olsen never gets mentioned when people bring up our receivers.

If we draft receiver in the first and pick up a high profile FA people will immediately stop bitching.

In Gettleman we trust.

I have an Olsen jersey that I wear on game days. BUT - he is not a WR. He had a few big drops LY IIRC.
