Interesting Gantt perspective on Smith Situation

What I've been told about a landing spot for Smith is Tampa if certain things fall a certain way. Smitty is apparently good friends with Josh McCown from his tenure here with us. The Bucs have (allegedly) told McCown that he would start in the event he signed with them. If that is the case, he would probably convince Steve to play down in Tampa with him, they could room together and be buds all the time again. McCown’s family lives in Charlotte apparently. If this is the case then Smitty would have the opportunity to play with his buddy, a QB that is familiar with him and would possibly favor him as a target, as well as play the panthers twice a year.

I could not find the article, but I do not see the "It will not help us" angle.  Smitty is cut--we owe him $3m in dead money in 2014 and 2015 if we make him a June 1 cut.  I don't think we will, and here is why:  They are banking on another team picking him up (if the contract is written that way).  If that happens, we are off the hook for whatever the new team pays him.

So, it is possible that the hit is much less.  The odds are that the contract is written that way because it is the only thing that makes sense.  The odds that Smitty does not play again is probably slim.  This could be a very shrewd move, if you ask me.  I will wait for all of the details before digging in and making a statement.

Smith's personality definitely has something to do with it...it is what makes him so great as well.

The truth is Smith would put people in his shadow because he wont' back down not even from his own teammates...and to be real Smith always thinks he is right and he seems like a my way or the highway type of guy.....welp...

This is about Gettleman making a statement. One that will hurt this team. And that has nothing to do with "business."

So what's the statement? 'I'm in charge here and I'm going to do some stupid stuff'. Right. Your theory is ridiculous.

It's a pretty popular theory, including among the player in question. Maybe you're too deficient upstairs to come to grips with it.

It happens all the time in the NFL. And unfortunately it often backfires.
