Joel Bitonio worked out as tackle, guard, center

Posted: March 15th, 2014 | Gil Brandt | Tags: Joel Bitonio, Nevada, pro day

The offensive line coaches from the Bengals, Rams, Colts and Chargers were at the pro day for the University of Nevada at Reno on Wednesday to watch Joel Bitonio. The Bengals and Rams coaches worked Bitonio mostly at center on his pro day; the Colts and Chargers coaches worked him out at left tackle and at guard the following day.

Bitonio (6-4 1/4, 305 pounds) stood on all of his numbers at the combine and had a very good workout. He’ll probably be a second-round pick, some place between the 40th and 50th pick.

I find Billy Turner and Mewhort to be the strong RTs that could transition well to LT.

I take back the Mewhort part...but still feel the same about Turner but it's a risk him coming from a small school with technique adjustments needed. Started high on Turner, still am but Bitonio looks solid as a rock and more ready at the next level.

Yankey can play LT. Plus, he's 6'5 with a 34 in. arm length.

He can be a stop measure but most teams & scouts view him as a top rated guard. I rather draft a player that played tackle in college and has the physical measurable to play it.

BOTTOM LINE

Big, physical, smart, serviceable offensive guard who will not score many style points, but generally gets the job done. Has starter-caliber ability and fits best in a power scheme that takes advantage of his size and pulling ability.
