If we cut Smitty it's not just about this season.

We save 10mil in 2015 and 12mil in 2016.

A june 1st would save about $3mil this year, 4 mil in 2015 and 12 mil in 2016.

That opens room for a Cam extension, as well as room for Luke.

HAHAHAHA OH MY GOD shut the fug up. You people seriously kill me. One player does not make a team, and making one deal does not make that big of a difference. Smith is no longer a number 1 receiver. You all act like Gettleman is some kind of idiot. I think he realize we have to address our receiver corp. I'd be willing to bet we will have the best receiving corp top to bottom that we have had in many years. He has made it one of his priorities. Calm the fug down. Jesus

Pot or kettle? Referring to "Calm the fug down".... Jesus.

meh ..who cares seattle is not an offensive team. did they do some nice things here and there yeah. but defense drove them to the superbowl.

panthers dont have that defense yet......maybe gettleman will go all out to make the defense stronger so they can emulate seattle.

$2 Million in dead money, not cap savings........7 Million to keep him, 9 million to cut him

They may not pull the trigger if he isn't traded.  It won't be the first time that a player was shopped and remained with the team.

Question is ... which teams either arrogantly think they are one weapon away from a SuperBowl (Cowboys) or truly could use 89 for a run (Patriots, Saints).  It would be interesting to see what Smitty could do with Brees or Brady hitting him between the numbers, even at his age.  Of course, I hate both teams and would vomit if he went to either.  The Bengals could use a crafty vet.

Seriously, imagine what Smitty would have done over his career with Brady?  Wes Welker would be flipping burgers somewhere.

This is going to be a 100 page thread, isn't it?

Probably.

Now waiting on the 7th person to post that the store is not selling his jersey and the 10 person to say it's because they are adding SR to the end.  It happens about every 4-5 pages.

It makes sense but I want to at least see Smiity get a public attempt to restructure. If Smitty says no then I could understnd the move alot better.

I just still see an elite or great slot WR in him for at least one to three more seasons.

it just annoying that they want to get rid of smith but dont have PROVEN wr that can replace him. that all.

now you got to gamble in fa with nicks or whoever and gamble with the draft.

also gettleman passed over kennan allen when he was available.

i want to see if he pick wr talent who can come in first day and contribute because it is possible.

Have we ever given him the chance to?

Are you kidding me? He's been in the roster 13 years. If it was going to happen, it would have been in 2010. We have drafted plenty of receivers. Colbert, robinson, jarrett, lafell, edwards, adams, and pilares. I'm a few beers deep so I'm sure there are more.
