Panthers attempting to trade Steve Smith.

What an absolute embarrassment. How do you treat a guy like that? You took away any good faith to negotiate when they put him on blast to the media then they unceremoniously attempt a trade or an out right cut?

This is unacceptable. For a guy that did so much for this franchise what an absolute poo way to send him off. We didn't even get to thank him for what he meant to the fans.

Honestly same thing happened to manning

I love Smitty, without question the greatest player in Panthers history but sometimes for the sake of the team hard decisions have to be made. The trade talk could be true, or it could be smoke and mirrows.

It is still not to late for Smitty to  take a salary cut and play another year,it has me confused to what will actually happen

You already started putting words in my mouth?  Please quote where I said anything about wanting Hurney back.  Seriously....how do you do this EVERY SINGLE TIME?

Why even bring up how Hurney handled contracts then? Hurney was not the first GM to overpay a player. Equating people being upset about how this whole thing has been handled as basically "well you guys are just mad because he didn't overpay him like Hurney did" is weak.

Theres a difference between overpaying someone by giving them a new contract and then cutting/trading them while still waiting out their old contract.  Say Smiths contract was up this year, I don't think anyone would be happy if Gman extended him at his current salary, and a lot of people would be ok with letting Smith walk if he wouldn't take less than $7M/year.  Its the fact that Gman is actively trying to get rid of him that has people upset.

I can buy those differences

However, G-Man seems willing to make the tough decision for the betterment of the team.  All of us should have the  #1 goal of improving this team....always

I call BS on the locker room thing. DeAngelo went out of his way on WBTV's "The Point After", saying letting him go would be "crazy and absurd".

This isn't going to just piss off fans - its going to ripple throughout the team. And not in a good way.

This ignorance about him being a locker room distraction, or preventing players from being leaders is just media fabricated nonsense.

This stinks of Gettleman trying to clean up the mess he made by running his fat mouth before giving Smitty a heads up and Smitty airing his grievances out publicly afterwards.

What a cowardly move.

You're telling me Smitty won't restructure at all??? fug Gettleman, today at least.

I do understand it is business. This IS a good long term move. I hate it with every part of my Panther Fanness and just as a Charlotte sports fan. This is like watching Larry Johnson play for the Knicks who he hated as a hornet and vowed to score 70 on Charles Oakley bc Pat Riley did not play LJ in the all star game.

Smitty seems like he would be alble to consider restructuring his contract in exchange to go out as a Panther and on his terms. He just needed to be able to come into a season and prepare like it is his last season mentally...he is not ready and neither am I.

7 million however is a huge number for Smitty's production last season and for what we could sign this season.

Ginn, M Mitchell, Nicks and an OLineman could sign for Smitty+Godfrey money.

Because he's an arrogant jerk who thinks he knows it all. Y'all thought Hurney made some bad decisions. Trading Steve Smith is probably the dumbest fuging move a team will make all year

You are right about the almighty Gettleman, he is an ego-prick and has botched the handling off SS. Big time.  But SS is not worth the dough.

I was making simply noting how Hurney is criticized for being too loyal and we're upset with G-Man for not being loyal.  I wasn't implying more than that.

You really should stop always reading too much into things.  I can't tell if it's just because you love to argue about poo or you just have a reading comprehension problem.

I never suggested people want Hurney back - you were wrong there

I never said people were mad because "he didn't overpay him like Hurney" - stop making poo up to pick fights.

I don't get why people want Hicks to come here asides from the "coming back home" storyline BS. First, he is looking for a major contract for multiple years, and even if he was willing to sign a one-year deal I would not waste cap space on a dude who can only catches about half of his targets and who is only looking to perform for one season in order to cash in on another deal. After all the work that is was done/is being done to drag the Panthers out of cap hell (thanks to Marty Hurney and his "everyone gets an record-breaking extension!" style of business) it would be crazy to splurge and grab Nicks just because he is a big name.

Screw that, I want to know if Gettis could return for next year (he showed promise in the preseason and is a big target), I want Ginn re-signed, and a WR drafted to go with Olsen and the RBs and receiving threats.

You typed it. It's weak logic, you know it.

that's not what he said.

what i took from it is just that people didn't like hurney overpaying for old talent past their prime and now that we have a GM that doesn't do that, people don't like that either.
