Panthers attempting to trade Steve Smith.

And the I-am-too-old-to-match-my-production-with-my-contract Steve...

Which is why you, and the rest of you folks on the ledge need to either jump off or realize he could either take a pay cut or GTFO. That simple.

I don't even think its this. He is either getting traded or cut to me no matter if he took a cut or not. I think the FO just wants to transition to the younger guys.

I've met and talked to Steve on more than one occasion, and none of them were meet-and-greet-type things.

He's got a chip on his shoulder, and he's very moody. I know he's been an asshole before, for sure. But everyone has. Fact is, he's been the heart and soul of this franchise since 2001. But about him as a guy, there's the moody Steve and the great-with-kids, good-to-the-community Steve.

Fair points.  Heard from many that know him that his moody times are quite frequent.  Just his strange personality.

He can be buddy-buddy with you one day and act like you wronged him the next. That's the moodiness.

If you can get over that, which some can't, he's a pretty cool dude.

One thing, I don't trust Ian Rappoport's sources.  Wasnt he the one who said the Panthers had already decided that they were firing Rivera and already talking to potential replacements?  How'd that work out?

Ah, yes.  Here it is.  Don't believe anything until you see it.

lmao everyone saying "this is a business" don't know the slightest thing about real business. anyone can do the math and see its expensive to keep smitty, but not many can add the total economic impact of the move. not to mention the move is only valuable depending on what happens afterwards. it's not a good move until we get a reviver to replace smitty that contributes more than smitty can... maybe someone can match those 800 yards, but the leadership , emotional intensity. ....fuging priceless. any real fan recognizes that.

We started winning?

Plus the report didn't say it was decided that he was going to be fired.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
