Panthers attempting to trade Steve Smith.

That's why I said "this year," as in 2014. Last move Gettleman made that was worth a damn was extending Rivera's deal. He Hurneyed a one-year wonder at DE, and now he's giving Steve Smith the Steve Beuerlein treatment.

Not to mention the fact there's been no discussion on a Cam contract extension. Can't wait for him to hardball Bus Cook. That'll go well.

There has been several discussions about extending Cam.

Hardy is NOT a one year wonder.

Anything else that you selectively paid attention to you need cleared up?

This is what I tend to believe.

Either way, hard to bring back a guy, especially a Smitty, after you've actively tried trading him. Unless of course he agreed to this to gauge his market/options as well. Going to be interesting to watch play out.

Uhh...what?  He's still under contract.  The fact that we're trying to trade him doesn't mean he can all of a sudden go somewhere else of his own volition if it doesn't happen.  The only way he could "not come back" is to retire.  And he if would be petty enough to do that just because G-Man hurt his feelings, then so be it.  I don't think he would though.  Smitty will retire when he thinks he's done.

This makes me sick.. God I couldn't stand to see him wear another jersey..

As much as I would hate to see him in another uniform, I think that this decision may be for the best. What I like about the decision is that Gettleman is showing that he is going to make the move that makes the most sense. Unlike most of the fans, he is thinking with his head and not his heart. At 34, Smith is not worth 7 million a year, and if he is unwilling to restructure to help the team, then it is time for him to go.

What I am worried about is that our offensive line is now a mix of backups and guys with less than two years' worth of experience and our lack of a WR.

What I hope is that this is merely a message from Gettleman to Smith to make him agree to restructure his contract.

Ok so you do realize its only March and FA has not started right?

Absolutely. I'm not saying there won't be some talented players coming in. If there aren't, the son of a bitch had better have a hot seat (he won't).

There's a fine line between being team-first, loyalty-second, and being a ruthless dickhead who handled this whole Smith deal clumsily and with 0 class. Gettleman fits into the latter.

You really think Hardy is worth all that money? Sorry for you. I like him, but no.

Where are these discussions about extending Cam? I mean discussions from the FO and Bus Cook. Not threads on here.

Seriously though If being traded to another team is what smith wants I'm for it. He deserves to hoist the trophy even if its not with the panthers.

I love Smith's fire as a player.  But quite frankly, he is a complete ass and dick as a person.  And that is a fact.

Imma be like your PR guy or something. . . or like the key grip or something, as long as I dont have to grip nothin.

My dad has been a self employed painting contractor for like 35 years. He always said his dream job was to be the "stand by painter" on a movie set. Then when something needs painting, he can say sorry go talk to the painter, I'm the stand by painter.

I don't know why your post reminded me of this but I actually lol'd.

Who said anything about them being scrubs? So you aren't thinking about injuries? You don;t just let players like Hardy walk. Tag keeps him here with more time to get long term deal.

Allen is declining. Young would be a better option.

Dumb? IF we can get him to sign a team friendly deal(like Bennett), it won't be one.

So far it's looking like a bad move.  Mitchell is about to walk and we are losing our only good receiver.  We have no money to replace them with equal talent much less better.  It would have been much easier to fill Hardy's void than those guys.  It could be we don't get a long term deal done with Hardy.  With Cam's contract coming up this year with that scenario, Hardy could end up leaving for good.  It would be the Julius Peppers situation all over again.  So I hope we do sign him to a friendly deal.  Hardy is the best defensive player entering into this free agency period.  I think he wants to get paid like it.

Lots of speculation on him being cut if no trade. They wouldn't have to bring him back.
