How do you know Bell can't play LT?

Amini Silatolu is our LG assuming he's made a full recovery and doesn't have a setback next season.

Easy ...   go back and watch the Bills game ... or any other game with an above average DE.  He is not agile enough and consistently gets beat by speed rushers.  You don't want him protecting Cam's blind side.

Amini is not a lock, especially with Williams being resigned.  There will be plenty of competition for both guard positions but nobody is a lock on the OL except for Kalil.

2 million for Bell is ridiculously overprized. That's more than what Carolina paid for their 2 starting safeties last year... combined.

They placed the same tender on him Seahawks put on Doug Baldwin who pretty much would be the best receiver here (more yards than Smitty on 36 less targets).

Heck if i'm Bell i wouldn't even listen about long term deals anytime soon. He wouldn't crack a 2M/year long term deal anywhere.

The problem with Bell is that he doesn't seem to be a bit better now than he was as an undrafted rookie free agent.  We all loved him then because he filled in more than adequately considering he was a undrafted rookie free agent.  The problem is that it's now several years later and this guy is still currently penciled in as a starter on our OL.  That sucks.

The problem here is Bell is not a gifted athlete. He can work on his technique all he wants. At the end of the day he is two steps slower than elite pash rushers.

bell first game was against clay mathews and at that time he was among the top 3 scariest mofos at OLB. bell won that day, but fans dont remember the good days only the mario williams ones. 3 bad days,10 good/average 4 greats ones during the whole season. no by all means focus on negative its a great human trait.....

salary-wise the last three he has played for the cheapest salary possible in the NFL, what a bargain. now if hes getting 5-10 million during his starting RT time, well i'd agree with some of the bitaching. or if he was a 1st/2nd/3rd rounder, but he was UDFA division II player.

Bell will be a starter this year. He wouldn't be the only player that took a few years to learn enough to start in this league. I actually would like to see if he is naturally better on the left side versus the right. He could start at right tackle but backup the left tackle if needed or the other way around.

I doubt this "natural" state improves him enough to over shadow the fact he will be going up against the best defensive ends.

    • Wilks is a nobody in the grand scheme of things.  He is right back out of the NFL, exactly where he was before Carolina dragged him back to the NFL.  I don't see what he has to be pissed or salty about. He got a shot with 2 teams and was just a average coach as he has always been.  He is a lesser Fox/Rivera
    • The way BY must play quarterback has a much higher degree of difficulty.  Coupled with his physical limitations his margin for error is small.    The guy evading the blitz and dropping a dime deep over double coverage is more exciting then a wobbling ball thrown into the blitz with good enough placement that gets 6 yards on a 3rd and 5.  It's been beat to death that he will never be the first guy.  He was the second guy vs the Chiefs.    The second guy is harder to do because it's mostly mental:  reading, reacting and processing the correct solution that the defense provided within a second or two.    It's harder to see on film, it's harder to evaluate.  That's why I think there's a divergence between fans yelling "noodle armed middle schooler!!" and analysts going "hold up, let's not write him off yet"    I personally need to see the Chiefs game be the start of growth before getting hopeful.  Ideally would like to see 1-2 300yd multi td games.  Then I'd expect the entire off season to fix his footwork.  With his physical limitations that footwork needs to be damn near perfect.  I would still bring in competition at the QB spot even in that scenario.
