Captain Munnerlyn

Recommended Posts

Is about to be targeted by the Redskins in FA. I'd hate to lose him, especially to a poo hole Like Washington, but if he really wants that #1 corner money then they are the most likely to give it to him. They also want Mike Mitchell but I believe that's already been reported.

The Washington Redskins desperately need help in the secondary, and they have the cap space to make two big moves this offseason, even after spending a significant amount of dough to veteran starter DeAngelo Hall. The Redskins defense was nothing short of an unmitigated disaster, and tagging star outside linebacker Brian Orakpo isn’t enough. This team was at its worst in the secondary, and the safety position was a mess in particular.

According to the Washington Post’s Mike Jones, the Redskins are showing interest in elite free safety Jairus Byrd, and he would be a dream signing for them. I worry that he could be too pricey and might prevent them from getting a big enough upgrade at CB, but he would undoubtedly give the team’s deep coverage massive, much-needed boost.

Jones also reports that the Redskins have interest in Corey Graham and Captain Munnerlyn, and I would much rather go after the latter cornerback. I’m not a big fan of Graham, and I think the Redskins need to go after a truly good starter at the cornerback position. Munnerlyn could be a cheaper alternative to Aqib Talib, who has to be their top target at corner. I could see the Redskins signing Talib and Carolina Panthers safety Mike Mitchell, who has interest from the team, but a dream scenario has the Redskins bagging both Byrd and Munnerlyn. Realistically, though, they might only be able to get a guy like Graham if they shell out top dollar for Byrd, but a combo of Byrd-Graham would still be a good one for this team, as long as they aren’t overpaying.

Scott Brown also reports that the Steelers have inquired about Carolina Panthers cornerback Captain Munnerlyn. The Panthers are busy trying to retain many of their own this offseason, and Munnerlyn could slip through the cracks.

Captain is one of the most underrated and under appreciated players on this team. Worth far more than the 7th round pick we spent on him.
