Anywhoo...Hardy would go #1 in this year's draft if he were being drafted this year, knowing what we know. Not only that but he was touted as the best FA going into the offseason, ranked above real MFL players who have actually been in the league!!!

Gettleman has no offensive line at all. Not addressing the OL with serious intentions would be the single dumbest thing.

Who said anything about not addressing the o line? Kalil quite possibly is the best C in the league plus the team is very high on Amini and Chandler. They also like Chris Scott and obviously are intrigued with Kugs since they drafted him in the third round. They need help at both tackles. We still have all of free agency and the draft to figure it out.

Charles Johnson and Greg Olsen both have contracts that can be restructured. They are working to lower Hardys cap hit for this year. It is pretty obvious Steve Smith will be cut or take a pay cut. They could still free money by cutting Godfrey, DeAngelo, Dwan

Edwards, Pilares, Norman and josh Thomas.

With Cams mobility an our power rushing attack finally healthy, we don't need to sacrifice our biggest strength (front 7 on the defense,) for band-aid, stop-gap players or rookies on the offensive line.

We've got sizeable and young linemen hungry for starting positions and the pay that will come along with it. They're already with the system and on The payroll. How do y'all know they can't start? You don't!!!

Trading hardy would be the single dumbest thing we could possibly do. The strength of this team is the d line and we are going to trade a 25 year d stud who led the team in sacks. Not only that but we are going go replace him with Mario Addison or frank Alexander.

Gettleman constantly talks about the trenches. The o line and d line. So why would we possibly mess with that? Yes mike Mitchell had a very good year last year and I want him back, but would he have been exposed more if our d line wasn't so dominating? We want to trade hardy and then take that money to brink back Mitchell and captain who proved just how good they were when we got no pressure on the QB for them in the playoffs. I will Take my chances with Hardy 100 out of 100 times and fortunately it looks like Gettleman agrees.

Successful teams don't overpay players. They know when to replenish/replace. Hardy making $13.1 million is overpaying. That 12-4 last year was a huge surprise. In reality we are still treading water trying to get out of Hurney-hell. We should be stockpiling picks and getting our cap straight right now. This contract is going to force Godfrey back into the line up and we are hoping to protect our franchise QB with scraps or unproven talent and maybe an aging journeyman tackle

Trading Greg Hardy could net two 1st round picks for the Panthers.  No one can tell me that's not worth at least considering.  Hardy is good but being able to have the cap space he's taking up AND that compensation in return?  I'd take it, use the cap space to re-sign guys like Mitchell and Ginn, draft a DE with one of your 1st's and still have some money to get a LT or WR in FA.  WIN.

I don't think there is a person on this forum who would not do that trade. Unfortunately there is not a GM in the NFL who'd do it either.

We are talking more around the lines of a 2nd this year and maybe a mid or late rounder next year. Which I would take. Get the cap space, plus two extra picks. Not bad. Of course, teams have done idiotic things in the past, so we might be able to get a first rounder. Who knows?!

What compensation? How do you compensate for losing a top-5 proven pro-bowler at his position? You can't!

Name one player in this draft that's gonna be top-5 at his position coming into the season. You can't.

Wait until you see the contracts Ginn and Mitchell are gonna demand.

We could upgrade over both of those players in the draft and FA at the same salary that they were paid last season without giving up anything.

Unless we got in the top-10 picks, there's no guarantee we would get one of those coveted LT and there are no LTs in FA that are gonna be more than marginal over what we already have.

What are you talking about? Most teams overpay to keep their good players. Ecsecially when that player is a 26 year old elite pass rusher and great run defender. So your logic is to build through the draft, let them play out their rookie contracts and then let them go sign with another team to play out their prime years? How does that make sense? Name me 10 defensive ends better than Hardy and if you can please let me know how many of those teams decided not to pay them.

Ted Thompson may just be the best GM in football and he gave a huge contract to Sam Shields. That's just one of thousands of examples. I don't understand what that means good teams don't overpay to keep their players.
