Hakeem Nicks: "I can see myself catching passes from Cam Newton" (among others)

I would be worried if we signed a long term deal. He hasn't proved he can stay healthy or that he can produce at a high level any more... (No TDs last season says it all) I want Nicks, and I would be happy with getting him on a longterm deal, I would just be a little nervous about whether he'd produce or not. It could end up like Stewart's contract, just not quite as bad.

"One year prove it deal, derp."

He will sign wherever pays him the most money. That's all there is to it.

no one is arguing that.

he just may not be getting what he wants and might have to hold out like others have for a one year deal to prove he's worthy of a good multiyear deal. that's not to say some dumb team won't foolishly bite early and overpay for him. this just isn't the best market for him to be wanting a big mutliyear deal.

he wants a lot. it's just not all that likely he'll get a lot.

My concern is the very real likelihood that multiple receiver needy teams will make a run at him, we know that we won't be able to get into a bidding war for him. I know the draft has a number of options at the position, but I'm just not convinced that the FA market will be so low.

The Cooper contract set the tone early, and not in a good way.

i dont see teams offering him a 4-5 year contract. atleast not, well ran teams. Nicks injury history and productions should be huge red flags for any team. only way i see him getting one, is if its a small guaranteed amount and heavily insentive based.

Don't like the "I want a long term deal" part. We can't afford a long term deal.

we cant afford much this year but I expect us to have quit a bit of cap space next year, partialy die to a lot of cuts of the dead weight contracts that we will finally be able to dump after this season.

the early contracts are the outliers. every year a couple teams overpay for players initially, but things settle down. a couple teams overspend for their own FAs and  couple more teams overpay for FAs right after they hit the market.

if the market doesn't settle down (which i feel it will), then we'll just take advantage of the cheaper talent in the draft class while other WR needy teams have used too much resources to warrant going after one in the draft.

it's a stacked market and it only plays to our favor. we'll get some "wiley vet" WR to come in and overperform their miniscule contract while we draft one or two  good WRs.

despite what teams have done so far prior to FA opening up to keep their players, this will still be a buyers market. that doesn't mean cheap, but it does mean more affordable and better values.

Nicks already admitted the other day he will to play one 1-2 yr cheap contract to prove he can still play. I can see DG working a solution here right trying to figure out how bring him in and sign him come Tuesday. Nicks is the most likely guy we have chance at. Then keep Smith around and drafting 2 WRs  in the first 3 picks some how. That's the best option we have right now. Nicks ain't the grestest WR. But when healthy then he can be solid.

Dude are you completely illiterate or do you just not proofread anything?

Nicks would be very very smart to take a fairly cheap 1 year deal somewhere with a great QB, like Panthers, Patriots, Broncos, etc. Then the QB could lift his numbers and he'd get a huge deal the next year.

Not to knock us but in that case those other 2 teams would prob help his stock more

Oh I know. But the Patriots may not go after Nicks and the Broncos very likely won't with all the weapons they've already got. Just saying he'd be smart to play cheap and 1 year deal with an elite QB. Whether that's what he'll do or not, I don't know, but if I were his agent that's what I'd be saying.
