Explain this to me

We are like, what, 4% of the way into the offseason? We've yet to draft, start free agency, or actually lose any of our free agents other than Gross. We have 2 young guards returning from injuries, a full 7 round picks, a full season of Riverboat, a young QB who will keep improving, and the exact same defensive front 7 returning next year, but somehow we are going too decline by 5 wins (you said below .500)? Yea, I don't see it. I also want to point out we would likely won at least 14 games if Riverboat Ron existed from the start of the season.

People need to take a chill pill. All of this because we lost Gross, and MIGHT lose Mitchell and Ginn?

I think it's because we have a dime left for free agency and people want us to improve our roster but we cannot.

It is still early but some of these guys played at a level beyond what we paid them and may get deals above what we can pay. Gman looks for those overlooked players that we can get on the cheap. Having said that I feel your pain.

So getting out of cap problems means pushing it back a few years so the future looks even worse?

Thing is when J-stews deal comes off the books in 2016 the nfl cap is projected to be $160mil possibly more, that's when we have big bucks to spend.

We have one of the best defensive front 7 in the league intact, young and most of them will be with us for a long time.  You can't pay everyone big money so you have to decide on the best way to build your team.  We're putting major money into the D-line, linebackers, and QB.  So, to make win big we have to hit on a few FA and the draft.  We already did that big time last year in both areas.

At one point we had 5 rookies starting.  Our D is going to be fine.  I think the way we're set up you don't spend big money on the back end.  You try to find serviceable guys and guys in the draft.

Gettlemen has said all along that big guys help you compete.  That's his MO.  So, with Star and KK in the draft last year and keeping the Kracken we're got a lot of big men on that side.  I fully expect the same thing this year on the other side of the line.  I think we'll get at least 2 starters or contributors on the o-line.  He'll built that up first.  He's probably already looked at next years draft to see if WR and OL will be a strong area.  Based on that you go BPA and hit those two areas with the o-linemen being more important.

Or at OT

explain this to me, what exactly could/should we have done?

we can't sign anyone other than our own players and we don't know what the market looks like to assess what the fair value will be. we have limited funds. the best thing to do is wait to see what happens when FA starts.

What we have is 7 draft picks and 5 months of being able to sign free agents before pre season starts.
