If we get Gotchery and Jones than we need a burner to stretch the field otherwise we're screwed.

I've been an ASJ fan for months now at #28, but under that scenario I'd have to go with Cooks I think. One good thing about the playoff loss could be Cooks, who I believe will be there and who I also believe San Fran covets. A lot of scenarios. Time will tell.

Maybe Getts bigger plan doesn't involve committing to the receivers in the '14 FA class for a long time because 2015 is so much stronger. At the end of the day, who are fighting over here...

Decker? Too rich for us

Nicks? Question marks about production and is he a #1 or complimentary #2

Sanders? A 5'11 version of Nicks' issues

Tate? Cost

Ginn & LaFell? Too expensive #3 WRs

Edelman? Too small to be our #1 and age

Jones, Cotchery, Hester, Rice, Britt, Manningham? Age, no #1 outside of maybe Jones...but he's better as a #2

I hope we can bring in Jones and if not, Cotchery or Rice but on short inexpensive deals. Back to my original statement about Getts... He said last year and this year were going to be like this as far as spending and adding high profile talent. Look at 2015s crop of WRs and think of the potential #1 WR we can get next year. I know Cam has been patient and we can't walk him out on the field in 2014 with McNutt, King and a rookie receiver, but if we can bring Jones in on a 2 year deal, draft Matthews, OBJ, Benjamin or Cooks and then sign one of the free agents next year.... We all of a sudden are back in the NFC Powerhouse conversation.

Granted, the AJ Greens, Dez Bryant's and such will be locked up, but maybe we can squeeze Demaryus Thomas out of Denver with their cap? Maybe Nicks comes home after all.

Yep, this Smitty dead money is 100% on Hurney...

The blame Hurney line is getting old.  Gettleman knew what he was signing up for.

You may think it is old but it is reality and it is current .  The ship has to be righted.  Sad fact is that it is painful. I am sad about Smitty but I stil believe.

For real, Hurney doesn't get absolved just because he isn't here anymore. He signed our "corp" to massive long term deals that will last till 2016 or so. Those contracts will get worse the longer they go too. Honestly, Gman hasn't been able to make any decent splashes in FA since he got here, the only way he is ever going to be able to in the next two years is to get these contracts in order.

Hardy is the 1st major contract he has had to deal with so far. You can blame him for not getting Hardy signed sooner to free up cap space. However, I imagine both parties were waiting to see what the market was for DE's in Free agency before committing long term.

Gman has been pretty honest about our cap situation the last two years. He told us we were skint and we'd have to wait in FA.

Gettleman knew what he was inheriting and he chose to completely cap strap us by putting the franchise tag on Hardy for a $13.1M cap hit.  I think he misread the situation.  I think he thought they were close to a deal, that the tag would protect us from having him walk, then the deal could be finalized.  What he wasn't prepared for was for Hardy to be completely willing to play under the tag.  Wouldn't surprise me a bit if Hardy and his agent have simply called off negotiations and are completely willing to take $13.1M this season and have another go at free agency next year.  If so, damn if G-man didn't get played like a fiddle.

hardy said publicly he would play under the tag from day 1. gettleman knew he would be completely willing before he placed that tag on him.

give it time. lots of months left

I know that, I'm just thinking that Gettleman may have thought they were close to a long-term deal, but as soon as the franchise tag came out, Hardy and his team pretty much said, "Thanks for the $13.1M buddy, talk to ya next year!"
