Mitchell, Ginn may hit the market

The problem with getting money by cutting players is that Godfrey would be a June 1st, so no point in doing it now. The only moves really left are restructures to Olsen, and CJ.

At most the Panthers would be able to free 7-8 million and get to14 million in room before June 1st.

There just isn't enough money for anyone outside of a LT and draft picks till June 1st, and that's only if they cut Godfrey.

As for secondary, think maybe one pick around round 3 then some low level FA and UDFA to fill out the rest.

Washington is high on Mitchell, a sixth-year safety, who last season recorded 66 tackles and four interceptions for the Carolina Panthers. The Redskins reached out to his representatives soon after the league’s negotiation window openedat noon on Saturday. They remained in contact with Mitchell’s camp, speaking with them several times throughout the day, one source said.

But that's just it. There ARE other moves that need to be made and nothing has come of it. The Smitty situation has all but died for whatever reason, the astronomical number Johnson is carrying right now hasn't been touched, Olsen's number should be adjusted, and no other cuts have happened. I just don't understand the logic of waiting until the last minute. As it stands we barely have money to sign our rookies and we don't have enough to fill out the roster for camp. I'm really hoping that Gettleman has been quiet because he is diligently working to make multiple moves all at once and not busy "still evaluating." I like the man and think he has done a wonderful job but he is worrying me at the moment with how he is holding his cards.

I'm not liking G-man atm, but hopefully he can change my mind.

what's he supposed to do? overpay to keep guys here?

he's got to see what the market is like before he does anything. if someone is willing to pay more than we can afford without handivapping ourselves further, then let them.

i don't want to see mitchell go, but he's replaceable. the same guy that found him can find someone else to take his place.

he can't afford to run this team on sentiment. he's forced to think about the bottom line.

What you need to realize is for this period where the organization stand in reference to the salary cap the Best mediocre player is All that can be afforded. You see they are trying to prove they belong and the organization is attempting to working with a LIMITED cap. Until All those bad deals are corrected via cuts and/or renegotiation, this is where things are, hopefully not for long.

I love Mike Mitchell but I think he has FA bust written all over him. I'm not sure he's someone you want to give a big pay day to. He's definitely effective and has great leadership qualities. He's fast and he hits hard but is he really someone we should keep at the cost of not signing a weapon for Cam? Or even to bring back Ted Ginn?

If you don't like Gettleman because he hasn't signed/resigned anyone right now, then you should really be blaming Hurney. We are still stuck in cap hell because of him. That's why Gettleman is very limited on what he can/cannot do.

Or we could've let Hardy walk so that we can sign some o-line help and help at either CB or WR. Hardy is a luxury when we have other crucial needs. That move wasn't Hurney's fault.

Ah yes, but if Hurney hadn't given out some of those ridiculous contracts then resigning Hardy wouldn't be so difficult.

Believe me, I understand what you're saying, and I would be fine with letting Hardy walk and using that 12 million to fill multiple roster spots, but let's be honest. Those contacts to Williams, Stewart, and Godfrey are hurting us a lot more then the franchise tag we gave to Hardy.

I'm fine with the decision to tag Hardy, I just hope we can sign him long term and were not paying him big for one year only to lose him for nothing ala Pep.

I think DeCoud could return to pro bowl form behind our front 7 as a replacement for Mitchell.

Avant or Jones could replace Ginn at WR if he leaves.
