Mitchell, Ginn may hit the market

It's nice to have an organization where perceived mediocre players can come in to positions of need and flourish, thus improving their own stock and income.

That is a valuable position to be in as an organization and elite organizations share this quality and aids in continuity, especially in the era of the salary cap.

If you build it, they will come. Gotta love it! I'll take mature players who believe in themselves enough to come in and prove that they belong in this league and want to be a part of a winning organization. It breeds success and continuity. It's where you want to be as a franchise.

Really bummed if both these guys go.  Hard to argue they didn't have a big part in Carolina's success last year.  Mitchell brought attitude and leadership to the secondary while Ginn gave the offense a sorely needed deep threat.  Carolina is likely taking a step back next year.

Gman found those guys right? He signed DFlo when there were younger, (presumably)better CBs still available! We all "super bowled) his FA class and we all kept hanging onto who we could pick up at camp cuts! We weren't even slightly optimistic until we got Star in the draft! We called him an idiot for double dipping on DTs. OLB in the 4th? He was stupid!

12-4......he has got this! Maybe he sees someone better, younger, and cheaper than Mitchell? Ginn was call a 5th string WR/ ST guy, even called a Camp Fodder! Gman proved he knows more than all of us about building a team

That's very true. Ginn was a seldom used, WR bust who was only good for returns when we signed him. Mitchell was an average, maybe slightly below average safety for Oakland who was falling off fast when we signed him. Now, they're both attractive free agents after just one season with the panthers. Gettleman did it once, why not again?

I'd like to have Mitchell back too.  I understand why the Panthers would be willing let him walk however.  Robert Lester really out played his expectations so you have to figure he's going to get a shot.  If Godfrey restructures and comes back healthy....we'd still have Lester and Godfrey.  With Sam Shields making all that money and several teams reportedly interested in Mike Mitchell....he might get an offer that would be unwise for us to match.  Person was reporting that Mikell isn't a priority....but I'd love to have him back so we could still have some depth.

Mitchell despite his hard hitting attitude....was a bit of a liability in coverage on the deep ball.  It will be interesting to see the Panthers approach to addressing the safety position.

I think there is one thing we call all agree on.  At least we don't have Nakamura.

As much as I would hate to lose Ted Ginn Jr, I'd be absolutely heartbroken if the team was unable to re-sign Mitchell. I loved what he brought to the team last year and how he rallied the defensive backfield. I hated how during pre-season we had fans calling him a dirty player (or "thug" when they had the prejudice up in them) and saying that he was going to hurt us with all of his "stupid penalties."

As much of a boost Ginn has been, I would sleep much better on Saturdays knowing that Mitchell was patrolling the backfield.

I don't begrudge anyone making as much as they can but Ginn would be making a mistake signing with someone else.

He revived his career here and actually made some big plays for us as a WR. He still isn't going to be a #2WR anywhere else.

It was really nice having a solid returner too. I don't recall any blunders other than some horrible bounces early on some short kicks.
