Panthers Interested In Eric Decker and Hakeem Nicks

Well I say he can still play and play at a high level. We will not have to wait too long to find out if I am right or not.

As for the money he restructured to bring the cap down and they paid him for that. That is done and that is what he is being paid for so he is worth the money because we got what we wanted. His current salary is not that high not near as high as you are acting like it is.][poFor this year it is near the same whether we keep him or not. So the value to us is greater in keeping him and if it doesn't work out we don't lose much the next season.

So cut the crap about paying him for being the all time best. if we paid him for that we would owe him alot more.

89 is being paid more than Stevie Johnson, Boldin, Wayne, Welker, Colston, Maclin and Crabtree. Really?

And cut the crap about 89 playing at a high level.

I can say that reasonable expectations, but only happens with a true #1 on the field! Will SS accept that other WR being the #1? I see him screaming about not being fed the ball causing the team not being on the same page

Gonna have to wait and see. I think he prefers winning. As competitive as Smitty is, (and that's part of his greatness) I'm sure there will be moments.

It's a Panther fault they keep running Smitty out as the #1 every Sunday. They've needed to address the position for quite some time.

If his leadership means that much make him a coach, Nicks has been hurt but when healthy production was good and if we sign him on the cheap I'd take my chances, and Decker while maybe not be considered a #1 is still a far more viable option in the Future then Smith.

I am looking at the big picture hence looking at the trend of Smiths career over the last 3 years, and  Smith isnt going to do better next year, he is only going to decline, it's not something that people like hearing but it's the truth and for the money we could do better.

I've been a Panthers fan before Smith and will be after Smith, I know anyone that's been following the Panthers since 2003 forward may idolize him more then myself but it is what it is. Smiths not worth what we're paying him.

the truth? it is speculation. his mo is to come back strong after such a trend. See easy.

looking at the big picture why would we settle for Decker or even Nicks for that matter? This is another point for keeping SS. Some want to move on so badly they would settle instead of keeping him another year and having a chance to get some better players coming along. Long term we would be better off drafting several WR's and develpoing them especially with the depth of this draft, which is another positive for keeping SS.

what we are paying him this year is basically a wash vs the cap. The money itself is not an issue and will not be an issue. it is about the cap. Everybody is over paid for the most part in the NFL so I don't see the real issue with the money itself.

not 100% sold on either. decker has been the more productive player over the last couple seasons. nicks has been poo over that time frame. yes he put up yards....but 3 TDs in 2 years!?!?! thats hot garbage. and yes i know eli had a bad season, but it doesnt explain his (nicks) 2012 season. i guess both would be good #2s. still need to find a #1< if this happens...

Smith is not worth the money we are paying him going forward, you dont pay players for thier leadership ablity you pay coaches for that. end of story, you want to live in some dream world like the other guy go ahead but what I'm saying is the truth.

sounds like you're living in a dream world thinking that cutting him would do us more of a favor financially then it actually would. Sorry to disappoint you but doing it this yr would only save us 2 mill while we'll still be paying him 3 mill while he's somewhere else. then we may jus end up w/ another Nicks who can't score TDs, a Decker who we find out really is an overrated #2, or a rookie who I'm sure wont catch on right away. But if that's fine w/ u then so be it. Your own prerogative. *shrugs*

Wow! Your talking so much trash for a person who just signed up on this site not to long ago. You have issues. And what am saying is my opinion and not fact. No one opinion is fact on this certain thread right now. This is all just guessing at this point. We have no idea if Smith will be let loose or stay. We don't have any idea whether the panthers will make a move on Decker or Nicks or neither for that fact. We don't know much until the reporters tell us. So don't be so bent out of shape because we just give our opinion on what we think might happen in the coming days. So if Smith gets cut. It ain't the end of the world. Smith will get over it and so will the fans. Time moves on and new players take old players place. Simple as that. If you can't handle it then find another sport to get into like racing. Bottomline we are just guessing at this point until someone says something this concrete. Plain and simple.

lmao you're crazy if you think I'm reading past the 1st 5 words of this. I can already feel the hostility & it is in no way warranted. Have a good day sir *walks away*

I find it very difficult to believe this "interest" is anything more than speculation. Decker is going to get paid and NYG (where Gman comes from, you seem to forget) is ready to see Nicks go. I'm good with the Nicks thing IF, we keep Smitty, draft a potential #1 (most likely Benjamin), and Nicks is on the cheap (unlikely, from what I've read he's looking to get paid). Then we go into the season with our top three as (in no particular order because it will change as the season progresses): Smitty, Nicks, Benjamin. Hopefully Smith would go I to TC as #1 and Benjamin would have it by the playoffs.

Then we spend two or three picks on OL and plug in holes with with the other 3-4 picks and UDFA's, extend Cam and Hardy, done. Super Bowl.

Question: do you honestly think SS is likely to get better in the near future OR continue to decline. I think SS has been a great receiver for our ball team. Unfortunately, Father Time is NOT a panther fan and waits for no one and he does not discriminate. The cold hard facts are SS is not, and will not return to #1 receiver production. If you think he will, you are kidding yourself. Keeping SS here at his current salary is detrimental to the forward progress of our team. Our objective is to be world champions...nothing less. We have to do what's best for our organization. Sometimes doing that means making difficult personnel decisions.

No it is not detrimental at all.it won't make much difference at all at current salary to keep him or cut him. When you say improve what do you mean? his stats? he will improve his stats. He does not slow the forward progress of the team. That is just ridiculous.  The wannabe GM's here think that making hard decisions is the magical formula but many want to make those decisions just to be making them.

But to be fair what is #1 receiver production in your eyes? lets throw a number out there just for future reference.

you got it all the way! This is the exact plan I want to see come to fruition!

What is it with people and not wanting Decker? He's better than Nicks and is healthy. Personally I don't want either of them on this team. Rather have Ginn back and draft a WR in the first. I am also interested in certain lower round wide outs. Like Jeff Janis, Brandon Coleman, that kid from Uconn can't remember his name. The money is not there so I don't see how this will go down to be honest. Also if we spend the rest of the FA money, might as well go hard for a LT that will protect Cam in the next 5-6 years.
