Panthers Interested In Eric Decker and Hakeem Nicks

so you think cutting smith would give the $$ to sign the both of them? You're delusional! Wo would only recoup a/b 2 million dollars by doing it & we'll still be paying him 3 mill over the course of the season. Stop w/ all this it's time to move on crap when you clearly don't even know what "moving on" from him actually means. Nicks said he grew up watching Smith & I doubt he would even still wanna come here if we cut him. The best option would be to keep him, put him in he slot, & make Nicks the #1. Decker is out of the ? Either way. there's no "hoping" he won't want a lot of $ cuz if he didn't he would jus stay where he is

lol Wow! Calm down. Are you Steve Smith wife or something? lol And yes I do know what moving on means. It means not looking at the past. Smith is still can get it done sometime. But he ain't Smith of the old. Your one of those fans who can't seem to let loose of  once favorite player. Smith will always be a Panther. But it is a business and not a love affair. If you want to compete for a SB year after year. You can't hold onto a player who is old. Time to replace him with a younger player who can produce. Decker could be that person. You want know until you sign him and get him on the field with Cam.

Id hate to see 89 leave, and I will more than likely be crying in my room for 3 straight days. But, hes not who he used to be anymore.

This is why we are in this crap hole in the first place. Hurney compensated guys for what they did in the past (Stew, Dwill, Godfrey), not what they will do for the present and future.

Im not paying a soon to be 35 yr old WR that much money just bc hes the all time best in this franchise history. Also, not paying him just for leadership. The torch will be pass on to a younger player at some point in time. 89 needs to know his worth. Either take a paycut so Gman can help him get closer to a SB or you'll just be cut.

We're here complaining about Stew and Dwill's contracts, but just going to turn the other cheek when it comes to 89.

89 aint going to hurt us by being on another team today.

neither decker or Nicks would supply Smiths leadership 1st off. 2nd u want to REPLACE Smitty w/ a guy who had 3 TDs in 2 seasons or a guy who no one really considers a #1?!. Lets get real here. How consistent was cam this season? How much did our offense seem to suffer w/ the offensive coordinator change? Stop looking only at the #s & look at the big picture. & half of those 700+ yrds came in the most important times of the season. Clutch 3rd/4th down & down the field plays.

If his leadership means that much make him a coach, Nicks has been hurt but when healthy production was good and if we sign him on the cheap I'd take my chances, and Decker while maybe not be considered a #1 is still a far more viable option in the Future then Smith.

I am looking at the big picture hence looking at the trend of Smiths career over the last 3 years, and  Smith isnt going to do better next year, he is only going to decline, it's not something that people like hearing but it's the truth and for the money we could do better.

I've been a Panthers fan before Smith and will be after Smith, I know anyone that's been following the Panthers since 2003 forward may idolize him more then myself but it is what it is. Smiths not worth what we're paying him.

Question: do you honestly think SS is likely to get better in the near future OR continue to decline. I think SS has been a great receiver for our ball team. Unfortunately, Father Time is NOT a panther fan and waits for no one and he does not discriminate. The cold hard facts are SS is not, and will not return to #1 receiver production. If you think he will, you are kidding yourself. Keeping SS here at his current salary is detrimental to the forward progress of our team. Our objective is to be world champions...nothing less. We have to do what's best for our organization. Sometimes doing that means making difficult personnel decisions.

so now were asking dumb questions as a way to get out of making valid points? Oh I see. Since I'm doing more than just stating an opinion but also using facts to back it up I sound like his wife...ha! All you can say is he's too old so did he fug your bitch or something? I'm probably calmer than you are btw. Jus listening to music & vibing out actually as we speak.

I honestly wish we either drafted Smith last year or got Cam in 2003, that way or best WR and QB would have had a chance to play together of their entire career, I know Cam hasnt topped anything Jake has done yet but from a talent standpoint it's not even close.

Here's the big secret he doesnt have 2 good years left, last year was just ok, with him making a few clutch plays he was boarderline averge for a #2 last season. He had 400 less yards last year on 9 less catches from the year before, and nearly 700 yards less on 15 less catches from the year before that, Smith isnt getting better, he's declining heavily, what is he going to do next season on his current rate of decline he may do 500 yards on 50 catches? that's good if youre a #3 but heck there are players dozens of players you could get that level of production out of every year in FA.

We honestly would be better off Going with Nicks or Decker, and drafting a WR's and Hoping he pans out then just drafting and praying he works out. WR is about as hit and miss as any position in the NFL when it comes to drafting, with litterally like 50% of them turning bust.

if it was that easy to draft a #1 WR every team would have one, which most dont.

is this the post?  a one year dip? an anomoly? There are factors contributing to this dip.one year does not a trend make.

You speculate to make your point so that goes both ways.  So I am not ignoring your points just not overly impressed with them.

I am calling it right here 2 good years left for SS here or somewhere else, if he chooses to play. He says he is not done so I will go with that. I don't think his pride  as a player would allow him to hang on if he didn't still have it in him. I also think his pride is what will drive him to pick his game up. We don't lose anything to keep him another year and if he is done then cut him.

cam credited one of his speeches as something that lit the fire up under them, causing them to go on tht 5 game winning streak before the Pats game. even GH said losing tht leadership would be a detriment to the locker room. I love Nicks & I've been wanting him here ever since 2011 but when exactly is he ever healthy. I think he kinda took the yr off trying to prove he could be this yr & he still wasn't. Even if either him or Decker were to be a better option for the future it would make more sense then ever to let them play alongside him for at least a yr so tht they could learn from him & get comfortable w/ cam while he'll still be able to keep his security blanket for another yr
