Panthers Interested In Eric Decker and Hakeem Nicks

Clayton said that our interest in Decker would be contingent on us cutting Steve Smith. No thanks.

I don't get it.  Cutting Smith saves money long term, but not so much this year.

Convincing Smitty to play for $4m this season and maybe next year, saves more.

Decker would work with and underneath threat (Smitty in the slot) and a deep threat (Ginn).  However, I would rather have Nicks.

Smith will not be better than Decker this coming season! Hearts are gonna get broken over his production next year if he is here! You can't stop, nor defy Father Time! He needs to follow Gross' lead and go out while he can still walk and function normal! With his passion, he is prime coaching material

that goes both ways and for now it is only speculation.

I see 2 good years left for him. But we will see soon enough.

Smith is still better than Decker and we would still need to get a #1. Decker and Nicks are really #2's so we would not be gaining much.We certainly could not pay both of them what they want.

Well at this point in Smith career. That is debateable. But Smith is still a solid player who can get it done on 3rd down. But he is getting older and we need a younger WR. Decker may not be great. But he is solid player who just got pushed back to the 3rd WR because of Thomas and Welker. If Decker is willing to take a 5 yr. 35 mill. 20 mill. g. along with 4 million signing bonus. He would worth it. Like I said earlier. Because the draft is so deep at WR this year. The value of a good WR on the FA market might have gone way down this year. I believe if we can get Decker at the right price. He is worth it.

Here's the big secret he doesnt have 2 good years left, last year was just ok, with him making a few clutch plays he was boarderline averge for a #2 last season. He had 400 less yards last year on 9 less catches from the year before, and nearly 700 yards less on 15 less catches from the year before that, Smith isnt getting better, he's declining heavily, what is he going to do next season on his current rate of decline he may do 500 yards on 50 catches? that's good if youre a #3 but heck there are players dozens of players you could get that level of production out of every year in FA.

We honestly would be better off Going with Nicks or Decker, and drafting a WR's and Hoping he pans out then just drafting and praying he works out. WR is about as hit and miss as any position in the NFL when it comes to drafting, with litterally like 50% of them turning bust.

if it was that easy to draft a #1 WR every team would have one, which most dont.

neither decker or Nicks would supply Smiths leadership 1st off. 2nd u want to REPLACE Smitty w/ a guy who had 3 TDs in 2 seasons or a guy who no one really considers a #1?!. Lets get real here. How consistent was cam this season? How much did our offense seem to suffer w/ the offensive coordinator change? Stop looking only at the #s & look at the big picture. & half of those 700+ yrds came in the most important times of the season. Clutch 3rd/4th down & down the field plays.

We should probably sign one of these guys but cutting Smith to do it isn't the right answer. Smitty is the only WR has chemistry with Cam. You cut Smith we're going to need to find another WR to help Nicks or Decker out because we'll end up in the same dilemma we've seen in the past.

Its almost a no brainer that gman will draft a WR in the first two rounds.

Hope it is, but 35 is a hard age for men and their recovery time! Especially for ones that have been fearless and taken the shots he has! He deserves the HoF and would easily have the stats playing under a Brady or Manning, but he didn't and he needs to quit chasing numbers! Go out on top Smitty

Guy's I know this isnt a popular idea becuase of the legend status of Steve Smith, but Smith is done as a #1 and he's getting payed #1 money, we need some new help at WR terribly bad, yeah you might not like it, but it may be better for the Panthers to Cut Smith and go with another reciver for the money we are paying him currently.

I'm not talking about the smith from 5-7 years ago to which I'd agree would be crazy talk, we are talking about the Smith of today and it's not that crazy.

is this the one?  Nothing there to blow up a theory.
