Panthers Interested In Eric Decker and Hakeem Nicks

so what are you going to get for what you save with Smith? Not a Decker or a Nicks. What are you calling #1 money?

I'm talking about the remainder of Smith's contract which is I belive 3 more years left and is for #1 money at the time it was signed, we might not save a lot this year but I think if my memory is right we could save somewhere between $9-10m over the next two years by cutting him.

the NFL is about cost versus value, right now after next season I'd be suprised if Dwill and Stewart and Godfrey are still on the team, all those guys have vastly underperformed since being signed to their contracts and we be cut yesterday if not fot the cap hit we would take.

Smith in the Cost versus value chart just isnt there and it's not going to get better going forward.

Even if we cut smith, which im opposed to, and sign one of these wideouts to a deal I dont see where we will have enough money to resign others like Ted Ginn and Mike Mitchell. I would just want gettleman to sign a Starting tackle and we draft a wide reciever in the draft.

I think our plan may be to get them to sign on the cheap this year with a bigger hit next, our Cap is going to open up a lot next year, even with everything going on right now we could get in the $30+ million in cap space once we off load some of these dead contracts, now with that said you have to wonder how much of that money will be going to Cam and keek though.

Most of us love and respect Smith for his years of service. But time to move on from Smith. Decker is much younger player and pretty good WR. He ain't great, but he is solid. At this point Smith is old and just about finish. If some how we can land both Nicks and Decker for a reasonable price. We should take it. Even if it means letting lose Smith. Time moves on and does to the Panthers. The NFL is a business and all the players understand that. Some fans just don't.

Smith is still better than Decker and we would still need to get a #1. Decker and Nicks are really #2's so we would not be gaining much.We certainly could not pay both of them what they want.

89 is my all time favorite but Id be kidding my self about 89 being better than Decker right now. It's the truth.

If you're going to bring Decker in you HAVE to keep Smith.

Exactly. But smith, decker, ginn, mcnutt, and king doesn't sound too bad. Other than the price of course.

In regards to nicks, do you think that would be smith would be on his way out? Decker will never be a number one. Actually, not sure if nicks will be either.

I'm not convinced Decker is going to be paid as much as some think. He could be someone who sits out there for a bit as teams are afraid to pay him top dollar and ends up taking a (relatively) smaller deal. Nicks, IMO, will take a smaller deal after last season.

Smith has 2 good years left but even if you think he doesn't cutting him this year doesn't save much vs what you could get in FA . He is better than Decker right now and cheaper. You pay him this year get a #1 in the draft and deal with next year when it comes and according to what he does this year. That is the smart business move instead of overpaying for another #2.
