Panthers Interested In Eric Decker and Hakeem Nicks

Are we talking about the Eric Decker that disappeared in the Super Bowl?

Decker may be marginally better now, but I still know that Smith can outperform Decker on any given Sunday. Just imagine Smitty playing with those guys. No way you will convince me that he wouldn't be a nightmare..

Anyway, Steve Smith was a number 1 for many years. Eric Decker will never be a number 1 because he just doesn't have it in him.

The whole Broncos team dissapeared in the SB. Thomas had 13 rec but was not a factor all game. Seattle just came to play that day.

89 willl briing toughness but his days of being a 100 yds guy each week are over. He had "one" game of 70 yds+ this past season and that came in the Playoff. If Jerry Rice's (the best receiver to ever play this game) production can come to an end, 89 certainly could and it has.

His game was always based on his speed which certainly isnt there anymore. Hes a no3 wr today. Hes not going to demand double coverages or the no1 corner on him anymore.

No team right now will take 89 over Decker. Thats just the truth. Believe it or not.

The best thing is take a paycut, let Gman bring in help, and move to the slot.

If he was still playing at a level Reggie Wayne is, then yea maybe we could call that a "high level". 89 clearly looked like an old man on the field last season.

there isnt speculation when all signs and the current trend are all going in the same direction, I'm simply stating the situation as it currently stands, while you are saying he's going to make a come back next season, all I'm saying is based on what? and you have litterally no reply to that.

What's happening to Smith at this point in his career isnt anything shocking or even out of the norm, infact it's par for the course, and you're acting the it's a abberition.

of course it is speculation you created a future stat line then used it to make your point. The actual trend is 2 out of 3 years at 1000 plus yds.The dip in this is an anomoly a one time thing. It would take another year of same or less production to make this a trend.

based on 2 out of the last 3 years. How's that?

so are you employing the "what have you done for me lately"  approach?

The whole offense was down last year. we had a new OC who took a while to steady himself and as of yet is not there yet.

I don't see this dip from Smith as just slowing down or loss of skills it is more to do with spreading the ball around, having a faster rec to run the longer routes . Smiths drops were minimal and his catches to targets ratio remains very consistent.  Very few examples of his demise go past a play here or a play there.it is obvious from the plays he did make that he still has alot to offer. He is still a great blocker and still draws the attention of the D which I think Ginn and co. benefitted from this past season. he still has great hands and is still quick off the line and getting into his routes. Age has slowed him a little but he is still able to get after it. he still has a lot to offer and we still have a lot of need at the position.

i think smitty's desire for a ring and another year or two of stat compilation will overcome his hubris and monetary desires.

someone with some influence should pay off steven furtick to preach a series on greed and the pointlessness of money for the next couple of weeks

Why does everyone keep thinking that CJ is going to restructure? The guy just restructured his contract during last season.

I was told that was not good enough. I think this attitude will hurt more than help this team in the future. we will sign the 1 year deals get players back on track and they will leave for bigger money we are not willing to give or are going to try and take back later on when the bills we kick down the rd start comng due. that is just business and most players will appreciate the reality of that approach and gladly continue to migrate to Carolina.

Of course Eric Decker is more coveted. He is younger and stronger and just makes more sense.

One thing about it though: I think that too many Huddlers have thrown dirt on Smith prematurely.  You see there's the problem of whether or not Steve Smith actually looks like an "old man", or whether it was the offensive schemes and lack of legit play-makers making him look older than he really is.  Now when Smitty goes off to New England, Frisco, or somewhere else and tears it up by actually being used in an efficient offense very effectively, then some fans are going to act all surprised.  Mark my words.

 We'll see.

we will take Smith over Decker. Watch.

you just made the case for keeping him. with the best corner no longer covering him and the double teams gone he will thrive again. To that point it was the double teams and best corners covering him that opened it up for Ginn and co. this past season. That is a factor in his stat drop. Given the pct of catches and yd avg  extrapolated to previous targets he would be in the 70-75 range in catches and 850- 900 yd range. The more you explain the better he is looking. Keep it up, Good Job!

There's pretty much zero chance of getting both these guys. Heck, the odds are probably stacked against us on acquiring either one individually.

But in the fantasy world where we somehow manage to sign both, it would take me back to the days when we had Muhsin Muhammad and Patrick Jeffers across from each other and put up ridiculous stats.

Good memories :)

If for no other reason, the number 1 reason to keep Smith (one way or the other) is nobodyin the league, NOBODY, can get into the opponents head like Smith can. He knows what buttons to push and when to push them. And when he gets into a DB's head it's like dominos falling. It fires up our team and the opposing team sometimes falls apart entirely(Rams). How many games did Smith put us in a position to be able to win last year this way?
