All I know is that if is see Marty Hurney on the street I'm going to kick him in the nuts as hard as I can! Dumbass...

You do that, but understand he's no longer employed by the Panthers and pretty soon that excuse will run out. While your at it, thank him for Cam and Luke and drafting Greg Hardy in the 6th.

Ok you let your boss come to you and tell you that you're going to take a pay cut so that he can give your coworker a raise. Especially if you work just as hard, if not harder than that individual.

Life isn't fair. You either deal with it or find a better opportunity. We all deal with that, what makes the NFL any different?

according to what i read the gain would be about a mil at best, but your conclusion i think is dead on.I think the smartest move is go into next season right where we are at with SS and then make this call after the season depending on where we stand and where he stands according to his performance. With all the stuff stirred up and Smith riled up this is a year I want him on the team.Talk about a "prove it season" , that is the x factor in all this, the will and determination of SS to prove everyone wrong ...again!

We can't go into the season right where we are.  Haven't you been reading the threads which says that we either need to exercise a bonus option which pays him 3 million more and triggers an option year in 2016 which pays a 10 million salary and 12 million cap hit or not exercise it and pay him 3 million if he is on the roster as of July 1st.

We either exercise the option or dont.  If we don't then if he is on the roster on July 1 we have to pay him 3 million more and still have to pay him for 2015.

If Smitty won't renegotiate then the only way to avoid the option bonus is cut him which is what Gettleman is considering.

Why not look at the other 20 threads about Smitty.  I think folks have made it clear that this isn't hardball.  HIs contract was designed to be restructured this year.  If he is gone it is because he won't restructure or won't accept a different role.  How many times do we need to revisit the same old topic. Gettleman doesn't have the emotional attachment you do.  He sees a old guy who is diminishing in capacity who is costing the team 7 million in cap this year rising to 12 million in cap in 2016 if we pay him the option that is due in a few months.  If you take the emotions out, he just isn't worth it.

I have said a couple of times in two different threads that the problem with Smitty's contract will be in 2015, not 2014.  When you look at the numbers and situation, unless you want to go all-in with young guys, also-rans or rookies, it doesn't make sense to cut Smith this year from a fiscal value standpoint. That's just the way I see it. On paper, without emotions, cutting him makes little sense.  Furthermore, if someone starts thinking about the specific numbers and situation, quite naturally Smitty is going to come up as he has a real or perceived bullseye on him to restructure.  All that being said, this thrread isn't about Smitty per se, it is about discussing the fact that we have no money, and unlike you I think that it's very apropos to discuss salary cap issues this time of year.

That's exactly it, so you can't complain when you piss players off and they leave. It happened to the Ravens

I'll be sure to thank him for the things he got right before I do it. He deserves to be nutted for his bone headed contracts that left us in cap hell regardless of the good picks he made. His bad far out weighed his good IMHO. Sent from my Nexus 7 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

Why get out of it when I can post about how ridiculous this thread is with your sky is falling type of logic. I have just as much right to give my opinion as you do.  If you are going to make threads like this then expect folks like to me to respond.  If you don't want this kind of feedback why not make more well thought threads than the same tired threads over and over.

Whatever. If the nuances of different threads escape you, then you have the issue. Like I said, GTFO. Simple solution, yet so underutilized.  Moreover, it's the Internet police trolls like you who inject hyperbolic statements into reasonable threads, and reasonable discussions, in order to make yourself feel above it all.

Don't start with me, P-55. You know that I can and will get right back with you.

The problem with the contract is what I laid out above.  Smitty has to renegotiate his contract before the end of June or he will be gone.  We don't want to exercise the bonus and we don't want to pay him the non exercise fee.  If he forces us to give him the 3 million then we have to but he is good as gone for not working with Gettleman.  Maybe not this year but definitely next.

Remember that this isn't just about Smitty but a message to other guys like Johnson who so far has refused to restructure from what I hear.  You see what happened to Gross and what we are doing with Smitty.  If you don't go along with the plan you will gone as well.  Gettleman is playing hardball and will continue to do so.  He is building the best team and that means emotionality is gone.  he is sending a clear message that no one is untouchable except for guys like Luke and Cam who are producing as a very high level and are in their prime.

I'm not complaining? If a player can make more money elsewhere, let them. If you're asking for a pay cut it's because you're not happy with the player's contract or performance. They take a cut and stay, or they don't and leave. It's not that hard. Players come and go. (N)ot (F)or (L)ong

Seems you are acting like the police telling me what to do.  I just said your thread is stupid.  If you can't stand the critcism than stop posting. I am fine with you saying anything you want.  After all, this is a message board not some life and death concern. Maybe you need to gain some perspective here, you seem to take this stuff way too seriously.

I think you're getting a wee bit confused. Nobody is saying he shouldnt or wouldnt be upset. But it happens all the time in football, the falcons want Osi to take a cut after 1 season there.

And if you think all co-workers doing the exact same job get paid the same and its all based on working hard you're in for a rude awakening.
