Every single year this board thinks we are in the worst cap situaton ever.  Then the schedule comes out and OMG it's the hardest schedule ever!

There is no sense of perspective at all. Everything is either a catastrophe or a wonderment.

Let's see, Godfrey has yet to be cut, Olsen and CJ have yet to restructure and Hardy's deal is yet to be finished...

Hardy's deal doesn't have to get done for months. Who is going to be left once Drew Rosenhaus finally makes Gettleman acquiesce? And you're assuming that we're going to get all this big of a discount this year when the deal is finally worked out. The way Hardy talks, we could be in a worse position (and, yes, that is hyperbole, but you get the point).

We'll see if Gettleman's magic powder will work on Mitchell, Ginn and Cap this year. It may have lost its effectiveness.  Some restructuring may help a little, but it's still inevitably pushing lawn chairs around the deck, and I can easily see that money and whatever cap money devoured by signing a left tackle that's actually competent and worth a damn. We'll see...

Well wonderment can be beautiful, and I dare say that nothing regarding football is a catastrophe.

Let's keep it real. It's easy to misconstrue and misunderstand someone else's perspective---at least from an emotional standpoint, from a message board.

Cap situation is bad. Just reality.

Might worse this year than last. We have little room and more vacant spots that need to be filled than last year

SOS talk is always silly

I can't wait for this draft and can't wait to see how Hardy's deal shapes-up.

Ready for some of the drama to die down and sick of all the incessant cap-freak out talk.

Hardy is the greatest Gift we could have hoped for other than Gross coming back for one final go and the most talented draft from top to bottom in years coming up should have everyone optimistic.

If you take G-mans word at face value about taking 2 years to get out of cap Hell then restructuring a lot of contracts alone for the sake of 2014 will not accomplish that. It will take some cuts and eating the cap hits over the next 2 years as well to truly right the ship. He has a new core of players to extend and will have to recoup the money from Hurney's "core" players that are eating up a large chunk of the cap. If he can get that done in the next 2 years he will have earned his money and strips.

Most people are assuming there will be cap relief in 2014 when the Hardy deal gets done.  While we have more time (on paper) to work out a long-term deal, our situation suggests there could be more urgency:

There are several advantages to working out his contract now:

1. If we realize that Hardy wants to be paid more than we feel comfortable paying, it impacts your draft.

2. If we can sign him to a long term deal, it impacts your ability to spend in free agency.

3. If you realize what Hardy's future is going to be, it helps in almost every other personnel decision G will make.

This is my take--there are many ways to go about this.
