2014 Draft Rumors Thread

Rams would be golden to get Watkins and one of the big three OT's

Rams here there and everywhere !!! ... After St. Louis checked out big-time OT prospects Greg Robinson of Auburn and Texas A&M's Jake Matthews at their respective pro days earlier in the week, the burning question around the league was whether the Rams would show the same kind of interest in Clemson WR Sammy Watkins at his pro day on Thursday. The simple answer is they did as St. Louis G.M. Les snead led another large contingent to the Tigers' pro day where Watkns reportedly had a strong showing in receiving drills. The Rams have the second pick overall at this year's draft and it appears that if they keep the pick that the logical choice for the Rams would come down to Watkins or one of the two OTs. And while the Rams have expressed an interest in trading out of the #2 pick, there is also some speculation that St. Louis could also consider grabbing Watkins with the #2 pick and then try and trade up from the 13th pick back into the top ten to get one of the OTs. Stay tuned.

I don't care what team you're on, your FO is interested in Clowney and Watkins. It doesn't matter if they didn't talk him at the combine, or whatever, they are interested. You just don't see talent like that every day.

I would absolutely expect them to take Watkins at 2 if they don't trade down.

Let's say for instance, the Falcons wanted to move from six to two, what would they have to give up?  A second?

Anyway, if they Rams go to 6, there is a chance that they still get Watkins at 6 and move from 13 to 9 with a 3rd to get Lewan or Matthews.

They are definitely in an exciting spot, especially with their 2 first rounders.

Greg Robinson is a beast but the Rams would be dumbe to pass up on Clowney or Watkins. Take an OT at 13th.

If your FO thinks Robinson is going to reach his ceiling (Trent Williams) then I disagree with Watkins. Watkins is very good, but I don't think you're getting a Julio Jones or AJ Green and certainly not a Megatron with him.  They might be better off grabbing Robinson at 2 (or even move down a few spots to 4 if Cleveland wants to go up and get a QB), and grabbing Evans or OBJ at 13 or even Ebron.

Cleveland definitely acting like they don't want a QB and their GM said at the combine that he already knew which QB he liked.  Could he be referring to Hoyer?

Cleveland could also trade down if Watkins is gone to someone like Minnesota and pick up Mack or Mosely to replace D Jackson, then another good WR with their second pick to pair with Gordon

—A source very close to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tells me the team is leaning toward a pass-rusher with the No. 7 overall pick in the draft. While Jadeveon Clowney would be preferred, Khalil Mack or Anthony Barr must be considered too, but neither is a traditional fit in Lovie Smith's defense—unless the scouts see Mack or Barr in a Von Miller-type role.

—Where will the Bucs go in Round 2? Cornerback is the area I'm told they're leaning toward most heavily. A few names to consider are Bradley Roby (Ohio State), Bashaud Breeland (Clemson) or Lamarcus Joyner (FSU).

I believe that Robinson will be a better player than Trent Williams.

I think Watkins is Julio, not Green. But, you have to get better offensively on offense in St. Louis and no better than to go with an explosive reciever than Watkins. The Rams are thin at that position. Tavon will be very good but hes not an outside guy. You are playing in a division with Sherman, PP7, and a very good 49ers secondary. You have to match up.

Taylor Lewan and Zack Martin may not be Robinson but are pretty good players too.

I don't think they're thin, more of inexperienced. They've got young play makers who just haven't had that breakout year yet. I'm of the opinion that we're still going to see a lot more of Pettis, Quick and Bailey Really think Quick could make the jump into a 700+ yard receiver if they can get consistent QB play actually.

But, thats like one no2 and a lot of no3. They dont have a true no1. Being in the toughest division where everyone plays defense, the Rams has to get a wr like Watkins.

Robinson is the better value, but sometimes you have to go with needs. They have not been scaring anyone since Holt left.

I just don't see Watkins as the special player who's going to take their offense over the top. Same reason I would be a little confused if the Panthers traded up for him. Very good player, and a top 10 pick because of no truly elite guy in the class? Absolutely, but I don't see him as this can't miss it's going to "haunt you for years" if you pass him up type prospect.

Me too. Ive said that Mike Rvans imo is the best wr in this class.

Im just trying to think like a Gm with the no2 pick.

If lucky, the Rams get both Robinson amd Evans.

    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
    • In my dream, we somehow luck into a top 2 pick and someone wants a QB bad and doesn’t want anyone else to jump them. Somehow we’ll probably screw up the picks anyway, but it would be nice to do even partially what Chicago did to us. We’d have to lose out, which is a decent possibility unless Tampa is resting. We need Atlanta to stay within a game because Atlanta beat Tampa twice. The rest of the draft slots are who knows because Jax plays the Raiders and then Tennessee and you never know who will rest starters. I think we are top 7 unless we somehow pull out 2 more wins. The 4 win teams have higher SOS and there is only one 5 win team with the same SOS. If we win 1 of 3, we still should stay in top 7. If we lose out and the Jax games work for us, we can easily be top 3.
