Saints shopping the PT Cruiser. Release Sproles and Moore

Our division rivals are trying to clean house. Hopefully they'll bite off more than they can chew and give us an easier out next year.

Thomas is a valuable performer...But the team already has Khiry Robinson in line for a much heavier workload, and it has invested much in Mark Ingram, who at least showed signs of life late last season. Moore, meanwhile, appears to have passed his prime, even if he is good still for a few breakout games against inferior defensive backs.

The New Orleans Saints' veteran player chopping hasn't stopped as the team released running back Darren Sproles, the tailback confirmed via Twitter on Friday night.

Sproles, 30, was set to enter the final year of his contract with a salary cap figure of about $4.3 million. The move would free up a maximum of $3.5 million in salary cap space.

The New Orleans Saints released wide receiver Lance Moore on Friday, a move designed at clearing room under the salary cap.

It's fun seeing them gut their team. Yeah it may help them in the long run, but it's fun to watch in the short term nonetheless. And I'm fairly sure that after this coming off-season, including the draft, we'll be leading this arms race even more.

I have no respect for the Saints as an organization but this is a pretty dumb move.  Saints had their best success when they had a great stable of running backs, each with their own little flair.  Ivory was a solid player.

Pierre Thomas is an every down back, hes no all pro but he gets things done. Sproles is an absolute lethal back who provides upside in the passing and return game.

I'd love it if they ditched those two, our front seven can absolutely manhandle a guy like Ingram.  Its those slippery backs who can also catch and run routes who give us the most trouble, as it forces us out of our comfortable formations, ESPECIALLY when you have Graham as your TE.  Honestly ditching these two is going to give us a LOT more flexibility on D dealing with them.  Robinson isn't exactly a slouch, but most of his production comes when you don't expect it BECAUSE of the versatility they currently have at the position.

Ingram averaged 6.4 yards a pop on us on our house... In the rain.... When you couldn't throw. We hardly manhandled him. While I think we definitely are better suited at stoping a guy of that style Ingram evolved into a pretty decent back for the saints who ran with conviction.

Ingram played pretty well against us.  I wouldn't sleep on Ingram.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut....

Ingram is of no concern.

Dude...the guy is a heisman trophy winning running back.  He's of concern.  There are plenty of heisman qb's that don't translate.  Typcially though......a heisman rb has some talent.

His only problem is that he's had to split carries.  Ingram is probably going to have a big year next year.  You don't gash the number 2 defense in the league and suffer from lack of talent.

I hate the Saints like everyone else....but Ingram is going probably gonna have a big year next year barring injury, since he'll actually be featured now.

5 yards a carry on a pass happy team is far from no concern. That being said, me pointing out he's a solid back also isn't me being worried. With the front 7 we had containing any back in the league isn't a concern... Just trying to make sure we are looking at this without homer glasses.

    • And he still has one more win and a $110M contract, go figure?
    • People looking at the offense negatively need to step back a minute and remember that expectations were mighty low this year. We have a lot of young guys and rookies. And our qb is a newby in the system he is in with a new coach who has never been a head coach and signal caller combined.  This is a work in progress so only an approach which recognizes incremental improvement is valid for best measuring where we are versus  demanding immediate success after a 2-15 campaign last year.
