Jason Verrett Scheduled to Have Private Workout With Panthers Friday

Man, I really love when individuals on this board put words in people's mouth.

Where could you have possibly inferred that I even insinuated that small corners were bad? There is exceptions to every scenario (i.e. Steve Smith, and Wes Welker as wide receivers or Russell Wilson and Drew Brees as quarterbacks).

My personal preference is to have bigger and more physical corners who are known to be more dominant than these smaller corners you can mention (Richard Sherman, Brandon Browner, Patrick Peterson, Joe Haden, Darrelle Revis, etc...).

Cool

No kidding. Three minutes in and I'm adoring this site.

Man, Bitonio would make a killer RT for us. I hope we draft him and sign Monroe!

It is addictive as heck.  You look at the clock and all of a sudden, it's 1 am.

Verrett looks like a good corner, no doubt, but he is still short.  I just don't believe he can handle the bigger receivers in the NFL, particularly the ones that play for QBs who can place the ball where only their tall guy can get it. Verrett can forget it on accurate back shoulder throws, but I will concede that so can many.  Moreover, is he really going to be as effective on the shiftier receiver who may make double and triple moves or comes back to the ball? The speed of the game can be a bitch in the pros, and bigger receivers who know how to manipulate angles can make mincemeat of smallish corners.

I guess that my biggest question is whether or not we would be forced to play him in the slot if he proves that he couldn't handle the outside among the trees. And,of course, that begs the question as to whether it's worth risking drafting him at 28 if he ends up covering slot guys. I would think not.  If he is available in the second, then I may think about him if he is the BPA, but I'd guess that either an OT or WR would provide more value.

It's not an outlandish notion to compare Verrett to Munnerlyn from what I've looked at. They are both physical and seem to play the ball well in the air. The difference is that Verrett may be able to knock down more passes because of what appears to be superior leaping ability. And, that could be big. I might give him the edge at tackling also, but I would have to see him against the pros.

Again, he may be too risky to draft in the first round, but if Gettleman says so (which I don't believe that he will), then I'm down.  But, I'd much rather take my chances on acquiring Browner and drafting McGill or SJB in the fourth.

The one thing I go back to his Hardy.

If we plan on trading him, then CB play will, in my opinion, all of a sudden be even more important as we will not be getting the pressure we did last year on opposing QB's, thus putting more of a burden on the secondary.

The fact the we are publicizing this might also be a smokescreen to try to get someone to nab him and push other players down.

The Oscars were handed out last weekend, but the the real acting is just beginning in 32 cities around the country

Yea, could very well just be a smokescreen. Remember when Brockers was like the first guy that Rivera met with. It's almost the guys that is never mentioned that we'll end up with or liked (Barron,Luke,Eifert). But, at least they're doing their jobs. Rivera may have just been more intrigued with Verrett so that's why he wanted to bring him in for a closer look before he go in for the shoulder procedure.

Agree. The only knock is his height and if he can not let that affect his game in the pro. If not he'll make a tremendous nickel corner but like I said earlier the nickel position is an important spot now. With offenses spreading the field and guys like Welker, Bey bey, Boldin, Harvin, Tavon, Cobb, etc moving the chain and killing defenses underneath.

Also, I think that guys like Jaylen Watkins and EJ Gaines are better corners than SJB and McGill.
