I think verrett is much better than roby, I find roby a bit overrated

 

i dont think he is overrated. i have a late 1st-2nd round grade on him. if he would have came out last year, he would have been one of the top CBs taken. he didnt play up to the level as expected, but he was far from being overrated.

Cmon guys, you can't keep touting the, "he's actually taller in shoes" as if the 6'4" WR's go barefooted.  They wear shoes too.

 

Verrett is tenacious and a great football player, the team that drafts him has to look at a lot of things, including scheme, run support, division foes, etc.

 

My personal opinion is that he will be better than Cap by a long shot, if my memory serves me, he had a great 10 yd split, which is extremely important.

 

It is also my opinion that guys drafted in the first are the ones you expect to be in man coverage, thus the high price you pay to get them.  That is not what we do here, so far, so it might be that we are paying a high price for something we won't fully utilize.

 

I would rather us pick a WR if one of the better ones lands there, but if we stay at 28, a CB might be the best value, who knows.  Not sure if it will be Verrett or Fuller, but it might be the hand we are dealt

I have to disagree. Imo Dennard is the best man corner and Fuller behind. But, thats the point we dont need a press corner. Lovie Smith said that you dont need great corners to play cover 2.

I do like the Fuller and Flowers comparison tho if thats what you were going for. Kudo.

Lovie is neither our HC or DC. We don't run a Tampa 2. We DO need a man CB because the reason we run the zone as much as we do is because we don't the personnel to play man.

Also, we don't live in zone coverage, we mix it up quite a but. The place reads like we're in zone 95% of the time and that's just not accurate.

I was giving an example saying you dont need great cover corner.

And, exactly we mix it up on defense. Thats why it would make even more sense bc Verrett can play both the press and zone. Thanks for backing me up.

The one thing I go back to his Hardy.

 

If we plan on trading him, then CB play will, in my opinion, all of a sudden be even more important as we will not be getting the pressure we did last year on opposing QB's, thus putting more of a burden on the secondary.

 

The fact the we are publicizing this might also be a smokescreen to try to get someone to nab him and push other players down.

All I know is Verrett impressed the crap out of me at the combine. Im glad he is one of the guys we're bringing in.

I wouldn't mind Verrett personally but Fuller's game against Alabama pretty much sealed it for me. When looking at the clips, Kyle was just reading the receivers like a book and beating them like a drum. He knew when his man was going to run a deep post, slant, out-route, etc. Fuller also had two TFLs in that game. He was consistentally beating blockers to make a play against the run. If that wasn't enough, he was on special teams laying out the wood whenever he was asked to block for his little brother on punt returns. Fuller to me is the total package and the best fit for our system. That 16% burn ratio is just ridiculous when you review who he covered that season.

The kid is smart (student of the game), physical and aggressive, instinctual, and a high-motored competitor.

Is there a cutups of that game around?

Anyone else remember Deon talking to Verrett at the combine, not only was his workout impressive but his attitude, that kid is GOING to be great I don't care who drafts him.
