Anyone an ESPN insider? I'm interested in who McShay has us picking in his Mock 3.0. ***Beware the Lions***

Of course Smitty was a rare specimen, but if you don't think Cooks goes after the ball, I question how much you've seen him play.

He's not a replica of Smitty, but he's the closest thing I've seen to Smitty yet.

His ability to fight for the ball in the air is not like smitty at all. Infact the only thing i think they have in common is they are short and have good speed.

I am sitting here contemplating reinstating my ESPN Mag account to become an Insider again. But I still have probably a half dozen Mags that I haven't read.

I have the same issue, i hardly read the mag I like the free insider part to the website. It's the only reason I still get the mag.

Anyway...anyone know who McShay has us taking?  I may not know who he has mocked to us, but I can tell you that he has Mike Evans going to the Lions. The Lions.

Imagine: Calvin Jonson  split right, Mike Evans split left, and 6'6" Kris Durham in the slot.

If you want to take it a step further...imagine Cap or White...

Whoa!

Can't believe a QB need that much help to succeed. Here we barely have a #3.

Not really close at all. cooks doesn't attack the ball in the air like smitty. Not many wrs under 6 feet do. smitty was a rare specimen.

Smitty is about as tough as they come, but I don't get this thing about Cooks not attacking the ball n the air. His video just doesn't indicate this. Now if you're saying that he doesn't attack the ball in the air like Smitty, I would ask you who does? And what does being 6') have to do with attacking the ball in the air?  Come on, man, I have made it my business to see this dude, and read scouting reports. Here is but one of many, complete with some pics and illustrations.

From what I've seen Cooks goes up and gets the ball at its highest point all the time when battling corners.  Sure he may not do it as well as Smith, but few do. Furthermore, he may be shiftier than Smith ever was in the open field, and is faster which may make up for any perceived less tenaciousness or physicality.  Cooks' only negative is size, really, but he is about as complete as they come from what I've seen and read.

Guest Dark Knight

If a no2 wr is that big of a problem in Detroit, why not just go sign Nicks?

WR is not the problem. How can you not win games with probably the all time no2 best receiver to ever play this game?

Detroit's problem is defense and not being balanced enough offensively.

Passing league this, passing league that. Cut that crap out. At the end of the day, the teams that can run the ball (balanced offense) and plays defense win.

Megatron is not the 2nd best WR.

Unless Jerry Rice and Randy Moss were just figments of my imagination.

Imagine Megatron in the middle, the other two guys flanking him.

On the bench. While Cam engineers ten minute scoring drives.

Point being is that I don't think you've ever seen this guy play. I think you see 5'10" and draw your conclusions.

I m not saying cooks isn't good. I like cooks. But winning while the ball on the air consistently isnt his game. I ve seen more of him maybe than you have which is why I m not lying to myself and saying he is a beast at high pointing the ball.

Not a threat to come down with the ball in tight coverage.

Struggles to fend off defenders on 50/50 balls.

You just quoted BR to support your opinion?  Good lord...

The guy isn't Smitty in terms of going up to get the ball, but I bet if the draft was covered back when Smitty was drafted like it was today, a lot of these same things would've been said about him.

Negatives

Same as with Lee, he has a very slight frame and lacks ideal strength. Will struggle to get off press coverage at the NFL level and will struggle with run blocking. Will often get beat in the air on contested ball, but that's not his game. There isn't a lot not to like about Cooks game as far as I can see.

I could go on. Everyone sees this except you...
