OT Billy Turner visiting Panthers per Brandt via Newton

News!

NFL.com's Gil Brandt tweeted that Turner will visit the Panthers, Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, saying it's one of the earliest scheduled visits he could remember.

At 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, Turner turned some heads at the Senior Bowl. He's not rated among the top tackles. Auburn's Greg Robinson, Texas A&M's Jake Matthews, Michigan's Taylor Lewan, Notre Dame's Zack Martin, Alabama's Cyrus Kouandjio and Tennessee's Antonio Richardsonconsistently rank among the top six.

But Turner is in that second-tier mix with Virginia'sMorgan Moses, Ohio State's Jack Mewhort, Clemson's Brandon Thomas and North Carolina'sJames Hurst

He's likely a second-round pick at best, so don't look for the Panthers to use the No. 28 pick on him.

Psst...I can see a WR in the first in our future.

priority #1 is getting a WR in the draft. We need weapons on Offense big time.

Problem is without a solid oline it doesn't matter who's lined up on the outside.

Build from interior out, just like we did on D.

Turner's visit doesn't tell you much about what the Panthers are doing in the first round, only that they are preparing to address their weaknesses -- and tackle is a big one, along with wide receiver and secondary -- throughout the draft.

David Newton cracks me up sometimes.  I would think that this is what every team does in the draft, some just better than others.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.  We could fall in love with someone at CB or OT, of course, but this is all about reading the tea leaves. Coach Rivera has already intimated that WR is a top priority in this draft.  So...where are my Tarot cards?

It's this simple. All the top prospects worth taking at OT and DB will likely be gone by number 28.  Our best value and best bet will likely be a WR. That's just how it is. So basically stating the obvious about not going into the draft with this plan or that plan is moot.  If someone put a gun to most of our heads today and told us that our life depended on being right about what position that we are picking at 28, the knowledgeable person would say WR, because they would be the guys with the most upside relative to their position, relative to what the Panthers need, and relative to having the greatest impact upon wins and losses.

All that being said. Anything can always happen.  Free agency is but a few days away.
