MKG shut down the 8th leading scorer in the leafue tonight. He also got torched for 61 and 62 this season. Is he as bad as though 60+ games make him appear? Is he as good as the game against George would make him appear tonight? No, at least not consistently yet. He's somewhere in between. But awesome game tonight, he just needs to be locked in like that every game.

If MKG can develop a halfway decent offensive game- nothing spectacular- just enough to make the stars he's guarding have to use some energy on the opposite end of the court- it would be huge for him

Great observation. I think that's why we as fans are a lot less tolerant when he does give up points because he gives us nothing offensively. And to me, whats even more frustrating is that he could probably score 15 ppg with his game as-is because of his explosiveness and ability to get inside, and yet, most likely because of his shot, he now avoids doing even that. If he'd assert himself, he would be respectable offensively even without a shot. I've also been thinking how irritating it is that we dont use him at all offensively considering his passing and ball handling ability. Why not let him do some of the facilitating that McBob does? Play some point forward? Ever since his rookie SL, he just seems afraid of the ball. He was leading the breaks in Vegas as a rookie, now, he dribbles once or twice usually and then gives it up. I'm just saying, we all know he cant shoot right now, but make him somewhat of a weapon offensively. There are plenty point forwards who have played in the NBA who lack long-range shooting or even just consistent shooting in general for that matter... get him involved and make his man work, instead of making him a trash man.

That has more to do with coaching then the player. I still don't understand why we don't have post up plays for MKG. Especially if Mcbob is going to spend his time at the 3 point line. Why not play MKG closer to the basket and give him some post up opportunities on the offense.

I also think officiating isn't helping MKG. He get absolutely no calls. He got beat down on 2 drives last night and couldn't buy a whistle. After a few times of being crush when going to the hole and getting nothing out of it. The coaches and the players get discouraged and stop doing it.

Yeah, that's all coaching, which is my complaint.

 

I love Kemba, but I seriously think MKG could do damage if allowed to bring the ball up occasionally.  He is lacking confidence because is shot is horrible and everyone knows it.  He thinks about it everytime he pulls up, and now that anxiety just feeds off every mistake and miss.  Let him play to his strengths.  Let him handle the ball, let him drive, let him create where he is comfortable.

 

And BP, Crash is a really good parallel because Crash's shot was also quite afflicted.  He actually pulled the ball to the opposite side of his head before pushing through the release, but he worked on it enough and by 27 or so, it was a viable weapon when needed.  MKG's hitch is what is so bad about his, but still, he can eventually make it respectable...  Until then, again, play to his strengths.  He has to make his man put in some effort when we're on offense.  That's why I keep bringing up the option of letting him handle the ball, let him play where he feels he is in constant motion almost an open floor setting where he can choose to attack or make a play for someone else while the defense is still getting set.  That's how I think he would be best utilized now...  Clifford has to use him and set him up for success.

I've seen at least 6 - 7 times for MKG and Cody to have post up opportunities on smaller covers in the last 3 games. And the post passer goes the other way or tells them to move. That poo drives me crazy. Give the kids some confidence with some easy scoring opportunities. I also agree with Proud. There is no reason for MKG not to bring the ball up or be a outlet pass option. When he's not grabbing the defensive rebound him and Kemba should be the players you look for to run the break.

I thought the team played well last night....I definitely was pleasantly surprised.   Who wouldn't rather play the pacers in round 1?

 

I think a lot of fans are putting unrealistic expectations on MKG.   He's a good defender when he matches up well against who he's defending.  Paul George is a much better match up physically for him then Lebron James. Lebron is Lebron....he's hard to guard, and Durant so lengthy that he can get a shot up at will and not get blocked.  Those guys are problems for a lot of defenders that's why they're regarded as the best.  What bugged me defensively against the Heat and the Thunder was lack of physicality, help defense, and lack of effort in the 4th quarter.  If you can trust your interior help you can step out and hedge screens and play tight d on the perimeter.  Coach Clifford ( who I think is a great coach) did the admirable thing sticking up for MKG by saying that his job was to eliminate Lebron from driving to the bucket....but by the time Lebron is 4 for 4 from 3pt range it's time to make an adjustment.

 

Only problem with MKG is that he might have already reached his ceiling.  Other then getting stronger, I don't think he's going to develop an offensive game.  He might only just be a decent defender and an energy guy....which is good but irreplaceable?

MKG is definitely a good defender.....I would just have expected more out of the overall #2 player in the draft than being a "good defender".
