Smitty meets with Gettleman today

Like many assets, Steve's value has depreciated lately.  The ROI is getting much slimmer when everything is factored in.  Are we at the tipping point?  It's a lot closer than many want to admit.

Ugh, I've done too much finance poo today.

Fortunately for the good of the franchise, our present GM will treat this like any other business decision and make a judgement based on whether or not  it will better the Panthers organisation and not for the sole benefit of a set of fan boys or one player.

I trust in Gettleman.

How many people here honestly believe he is a viable option as #1 WR? How many people actually believe he won't be worse than last year? Father Time hits hard and fast at 35

I believe he's plenty capable of being a 1 AND having better numbers than last year. His drop in stats has as much to do with those around him as it does him.

Bring Chud back and I'd bet you anything I have he's right back over the 1k receiving mark. Might not win as much, but this horrible argument wouldn't be happening.

If you didn't find yourself during this past season saying, "Steve catches that last year!", on several occasions then you are in denial! I love Smitty as much as the next Panther fan, but time has come and gone! At best he has one more year at slot and I would like to see it here. As you and I both know, hitting mid 30's doesn't mean you can't, just means your body won't heal fast enough to let you at 100%. All warriors must give way to youth at some point

Everyone who's saying cut him, you aren't going to save a bunch of money by doing so.  We would end up paying him 3 million plus for this year, while he collects another decent check with another team and probably win a championship.  The only player that should be cut this year that will actually give us cap room, is Godfrey.

By the way, Steve got open a lot this past season.  Sure he didn't get the kind of seperation that he was known for in his hayday, yet he still got open enough to put up your typical thousand yard season.  It's just that Cam was inconsistent on accuracy. (Some of that being his fault, and some due to a poor O-line)  Smitty can still ball, and it's not worth cutting him.  If you can restructure his deal, restructure it.  If you have to pay him the full 7 mil, do that.  Cutting him would just get us a spot on world's dumbest.

Lol at all this BS diva talk. Smitty isn't a diva. You guys throwing that word around need to reevaluate your idea of a diva. A diva is someone who only cares about themself. A diva wants the ball for the attention and money that comes with stats. Steve wants the ball because he legitimately believes that gives his team the best chance to win. A diva doesn't have the heart and passion that Smitty has. Smitty is a competitor and a warrior, not a diva. The best comparison I can think of is Jordan. No denying both have huge egos, but that's not what drives them. Passion and competitiveness is.
