Smitty meets with Gettleman today

No, we just hate the people who call everyone "haters" when anything questionable is said about a player. It is very sophmorish to say the least.

Would love to see Smith stay and become that slot WR that he really wants to be. But, the plain and simple truth is that his numbers and performance are not comensurate with $7m a season...especially with the cap hell WR are in and with zero at LT and CB.

Wasn't talking to you but since you quoted me here goes.

The post I was referencing had nothing to do with his pay or play and everything to do with his persona. Typical hater speak. You got a problem with the ratio of production to performance? fine, that's a valid argument and deserves some discussion.

You want to discuss the ending of Smitty's career in a civil way without using dumbass "sucker punch" jokes or diva bullshit then let's have at it.

Just don't stroll in here with a bunch of schoolgirl omgz he's such a diva crap and expect to not get called a hater.

At 35 Smitty is or should be a quality slot receiver and is a leader on this team who should no longer be expected to be a #1.

Is 7 million too much for the Panthers' fiercest competitor in 2014?

That definitely is the question .

Abd, I would say that if we were not in cap hell with huge holes at LT, CB, and WR there woukd not be a big question as to whether we pays him. But, given the position we are in....we may be forced to make some really tough and unpopular decisions.

Only tine will tell how Gett continues this cap recovery project.

I always see people talking about how much money he is making, but they never have a suggestion for who would replace him as the #1 receiver while being paid next to nothing, since Steve Smith is so vastly overpaid.

This might be the greatest post I've ever read on this thread. People act like we have Josh fuging Gordon on the roster. He's the only starter under contract.

But if we cut Steve Smith we have enough money to sign all the receivers!

I also don't think it's fair to throw out his low numbers from this past year as if that definitively means he's done or something. We had one of the bottom ranked offenses in the league. Nobody had gaudy numbers in that offense. So let's please stop with that.

People lie, number don't. 750 yards receiving & 4 touch downs does not equal 7 million dollars...period.

Take a major pay cut & move to the slot is the only acceptable scenario.

Admittedly Smitty should not be expected to be a #1.

But part of his drop in production is in the last 3 years is the Panthers have transformed from pass>run to run>pass.

Coincidentally the win totals have also risen where Cam once passed north of 4000 yards last year was south of 3400.

Different play calling matters.
