Whatever happened to the "eightynine" gear you used to be able to buy on the team site? Is there anywhere to get that stuff anymore? I had a bunch of those shirts and am left with only one longsleave and it is fading fast and I need to buy some more.

Please don't hate me, But I'm hearing smitty is done.

I'm not out for glory or anything, but from what I'm hearing from a friend of a friend, Smitty is done with us. Normally I would take this as hearsay, but the same friend of a friend said Gross was retiring a day or two before it was announced back when it was still a toss up for everyone else.

I don't want this to be true, Steve is my all time favorite player, call me an idiot or an asshole or what have you, I'm not NJPanthers and I'm not trying to say I'm some dude with connections to the organization. I just heard from a guy who knows a guy, take it with a grain of salt.

Here's what I have gathered, again all third hand, so if it's not true, I'm happy to be wrong:

The meeting with Getts yesterday was to tell Smitty we were looking to move on. We are trying to trade him, two teams that showed interest are SD and NE. We want picks or a starter on the o-line or secondary. If we don't get what we want, Smitty will be designated a June 1st Cut. We are not going to bring Lafell or hixon back, but have a verbal agreement with Ginn.

We are making a push at Hakeem Nicks and are looking to draft at least 2 WR's this year.

again, Just what I've heard

by hit, do you mean someone else has already said it, or do you mean people are reading it as fact and that it actually happened and that I am the one who broke the story?

I'm just telling you people what I heard, no idea if its true or not. I don't want to be "that guy".

I hope your source is wrong, but thanks for sharing.  Unfortunately, I wouldn't be shocked if your source is right. :(

The part that I find hard to believe is that Smitty has been told that we're moving on and yet has remained quite about it.  That doesn't seem like something Smitty would do.  If he's already been told he's getting traded or cut, then he has no incentive to remain quite.

Smittys decine started last season. yes, he had nearly 1,200 yards, but you could see he wasnt the same. hell it was like week 7 or 8 before he even scored a TD. his role also changed in the '12 season. they used him in more short routes than normal. they had too, to put him in a position to be more productive.  I hope hes around this year in a role similar to the one Prohel had in '03. IF hes gone we'll for sure need a vet or 2 to cover his play. and a couple rooks

Cracka, I appreciate the fact that you shared this--even if only a rumor or hearsay.  This is not a forum for stating only confirmed facts, so any buzz or whispers are interesting.  I am surprised about Hicks--but if they are moving on from Smitty, everything you mention is what would be required to transition to a "life without Smitty" scenario.

I want to keep him, but frankly, this makes sense and is consistent with everything Gettlemen has been doing and saying.

Some of you guys are high. Smith had respectable numbers with a shaky OC and an inaccurate QB. I still think that if Smith were paired with Manning or Brady that he puts up a top 10 year. He would still be the best wr on NE and the 2nd (after Thomas) on Den. Although he is slowing and his deep-seperation isnt what it was, his route running and ball-skills are still there as are his shiftyness and strength. He is still racking up yards-after-catch and after contact.

Yep, Cam sucks and that's why a 34 year old WR suddenly had a drop in production...

Smith earned his money, would I love for him to take one for the team ? yes of course, but if he doesn't should people be mad at him? not at all, how many of you would Take a pay cut at work after putting in constant years of high performance.

Steve Smith has thin skin, he's emotional, and easily gets an attitude.....all these things are true but people seem to forget that it's these same attributes that get him fired up on the field. It's the same attributes that have won many, many games for the Panthers in the past. Smith hasn't changed too much over the years and the people bemoaning his "attitude" were probably praising him when he makes catches in the clutch all season long. You can't pick and choose when you want Steve Smith to be Steve Smith. We need him on this team in some capacity and I can't believe how quickly some Panther fans are ready to kick him to the curb.
