Smitty meets with Gettleman today

Please don't hate me, But I'm hearing smitty is done.

I'm not out for glory or anything, but from what I'm hearing from a friend of a friend, Smitty is done with us. Normally I would take this as hearsay, but the same friend of a friend said Gross was retiring a day or two before it was announced back when it was still a toss up for everyone else.

I don't want this to be true, Steve is my all time favorite player, call me an idiot or an asshole or what have you, I'm not NJPanthers and I'm not trying to say I'm some dude with connections to the organization. I just heard from a guy who knows a guy, take it with a grain of salt.

Here's what I have gathered, again all third hand, so if it's not true, I'm happy to be wrong:

The meeting with Getts yesterday was to tell Smitty we were looking to move on. We are trying to trade him, two teams that showed interest are SD and NE. We want picks or a starter on the o-line or secondary. If we don't get what we want, Smitty will be designated a June 1st Cut. We are not going to bring Lafell or hixon back, but have a verbal agreement with Ginn.

We are making a push at Hakeem Nicks and are looking to draft at least 2 WR's this year.

again, Just what I've heard

You just made my heart race and not in a good way. Ugh.

If Smith goes to any other team I want it to be NE. If he wants to chase stats that will be best place for him while he still has juice in the tank. If he could manage another 2,500 yards or so in 2-3 years he'll be sitting pretty for HOF chances.

Love the guy and he gave everything he had for us. He does not owe us anything in my opinion and I'm sure in his heart he will be a Panther forever. I want to see him stay with us and I want to see him have great numbers with US in his last few seasons. But he deserves to be selfish at this time his career and if DG is serious about moving on from him it'll just make the decision easier on Smitty.

Still don't think he's going anywhere.

So, what you're saying is Smitty called for the meeting to just clear the air (because it was reported that he initiated it), and then was told that the Panthers want to move on without him and were trying to trade him, as opposed to Gettleman calling for the meeting first?  if that's true, then I don't like the way that was handled either.

Gotta be something missing.

This! This is something that makes the team better! This is a smart move! Throw in a Rice or Britt one-year chance deal and we improve over last year!!!!! Smart GMs make these moves!

I'm not gonna say I don't understand or agree with the logic of letting him go, but the thought of seeing him in a different uniform and not retiring a Panther...

Dr.-Who.gif

I feel ya.  If it's any consolation, even if Smitty leaves, you know he'll probably do that one-day contract thing and retire as a Panther...Doesn't seem right though, but...it is what it is.

God, the thought of Smitty in a NE uni is nauseating.

I hope if this happens, both sides stay respectful and don't engage in any bitter pot shots. That's asking a lot of 89, though.

Well if he goes elsewhere not only do I hope we play him....I hope his replacement goes for 100 pls two tds and we knock his dick in the dirt so much he regrets being such a douche.   Good riddance Steve.
