Hardy Update: He signs tender, long term talks continue

Yes. I just don't see why it is so hard for folks to understand this.

We aren't done.

Agree. But we have to be careful that we just don't kick this cap hell can down the road and are in worse shape in the next few years. Restructuring just makes the future tougher....better hope the cap goes up big in the next few years if we do. That us what Hurvey bet on and we all lost.

But these are the types of deals you want for your every down core group of players. The super stars. Cam, Hardy and Luke are our Super-stars and not only that, but they are brand-able players who make average players into playmakers because of their talent.

Sure, we are gonna have to pay that super-star WR once we get him and elite LTs don't come cheap, but the rest of the guys just have to be serviceable and it's next man up once you get that continuity.

Look at the Pats, Steelers, Packers and Giants. I mean half their players you've never heard of, but they play like all-pros surrounded by the leaders on their team.

TE is a great example of next man up for the Panthers. I mean, can you even name a sub-par TE that has played for us?

Same thing at RB. Nick Goings? I mean seriously...we aren't going to have to sink money like that into Rbs again after wwe get out of these contracts in a couple of years. Same thing with DTs, OGs, TEs and corners, because the rest of the guys make their jobs really easy.

Success is here to stay now that we have the swagger and success breeds success. We're friggin' Panthers for Pete sake! Rawww-errraw!!

Predicting an 8-8 record before free agency has begun AND before the draft is absolutely ridiculous to me.

We have 8mill to play with roughly. 6 Mill roughly goes to sign the Draft class, even if we cut Godfrey and we may not because of how little money we have in FA it will only give us a few more million to play with. I dont know about you but thats not very much money to look forward to in FA.

You know, you're right.

I am sure Gettleman and crew are perfectly content with our current cap situation and don't plan on reworking any deals, making any cuts, nothing. We are so perfectly content that we might just skip the draft too!

There comes a time when fans need to sit back, STFU, and let things play out before they throw in the towel and start bitching about every little thing they can find to bitch about.

What you dont get is they are content. This year we rebuild from a team that was not very good to start with and overachieved. The deals that are going to be reworked already have been and the only cuts we will see will be Godfrey and thats a MAYBE. Im sorry if you think Im bitching, Im not, I am simply seeing things come into place and adjusting my expectations. People like you are the same ones that drive me nuts when you come here week 10 and we are not living up to expectations that you guys set and ignored until the truth falls on you like a ton of bricks.

And for those that look at the cap and say that we don't have the money to bring in anyone good, lets take a look.

Lets assume that we get a long-term deal done with Hardy (a reasonable assumption considering both sides have shown that's what they want). Following the numbers of most big deals, the cap number for the first year or two is fairly reasonable...say between 6-7 million in year one. That means that we gain an additional 6-7 million in cap space this year (I'll go low and say 6 million).

Well, we have about 6 million in space right now, so if you add in the additional 6 million, that means we would have 12 million available to sign FA's.

Now, lets make another logical assumption and say we release Godfrey as a June 1st cut, that gives us another 5 million to work with.

So, with just those two moves, we would have at least 17 million that we can use to fill out our roster. That's plenty to bring in a big-time FA such as Monroe to replace Gross, sign Mitchell and Ginn, and bring in a few guys on 1 year contracts...still leaving some money for rookies, in-season moves, and possible carry over money. And that doesn't even include any of the other moves Gettleman could make if he wants to clear more cap space.

Point is that we are in pretty good shape, and Gettleman has the resources to fill in any holes we have with at least comparable talent to what we had last year...and improve some.

You sir, are one of the few people who get it. Great post

Even those guys had their moments and with what they were surrounded by they were mostly used for blocking.

If you put any if those guys on this team, in their prime, they'd be more than serviceable.

I'm telling ya', it's not gonna take a team full of all-pros to make this offense more efficient and we can build through the draft and by doing like the FO did last year by finding athletes with something to prove and a place to show why they came into the league in the first place.

I'm really optimistic and I don't think it's misguided to be more optimistic than I've ever been considering the state of the franchise.

There's talent in the wings and on the practice field and they just have to step up.

You never really know these things work out.....All I'm saying is be patient and see how things play out. Let's see how the draft goes and who we end up signing through free agency. We haven't gotten enough of our roster set in stone to start predicting a .500 season. Once we get a look at the depth chart, then season predictions can be made based of the talent on our roster. Right now we don't have enough roster info so predicting .500 seems more like "gloom and doom" thinking based off pure speculation.

Of course this is simply my outlook on our future....you're free to do whatever you want.

I dont think we will have like a 3-13 season but I do think with whats happened we will see a 8-8 team in a year with a easy schedule. In other words a down year because we could have done way better. With Hardy signing we are more cash strapped than even last year, thats what concerns me.

I disagree this team has improved every year and it will continue for a while. This team will be a minimum of 10-6 every year unless Cam and other major position gets injured.
