Hardy Update: He signs tender, long term talks continue

thats not what i meant. I meant we can't have two top paid DE's and expect a well rounded team. CJ would be older therefore he would be cut, not Hardy.

in a perfect world, you replace vets with youth..  before Gettleman, this was merely a fantasy with this franchise...

Ok, so all of you tag and trade folks, who are we trading with for Hardy?  What is an equal value to a proven pass rusher?  How many picks in this draft are going to replace him?

I was totally on board with the tag and trade a while ago.  More and more, I've been thinking and checking out the FA news lines.  What it boils down to is this:  no one is going to take Hardy and benefit us.  Thinking about the logic behind a trade, you only dangle a player out there when you're OK losing in the trade so long as you get "something."  Like when we shipped Beason off to the Giants for a 7th rounder.  We lost.  Beason should have been worth a 4th rounder at least due to his production for the Giants this year.  Would they have traded a 4th for Beason?  Nope!  Because they'd rather take a risk on a young guy they researched and drafted than a 28-29 year old LB coming off significant knee/leg injuries.  We got hosed on that trade.  And that's how they work.

So who wants Hardy enough to really give up some draft picks?  Probably no one.  Is there anyone in this draft who can replace him?  Nope. For Clowney is the motor, for Dee Ford its the size and athleticism.  For the OLBs, it's the wrong position.

If Hardy is traded it won't be until the long term deal fails, and after the season starts.

This.

It seems that DE by committee is good enough for many around here and they'd rather spend the money on high profile and aging free agents with some future high draft picks...

First off, it doesn't appear that Hardy gets the credit due that he is among the most dynamic and ferocious, feared and Basically beastly youthful DEs in a league that is built on the pass. It was a miracle he fell to the 6th and that drop is one of the strangest stories in NFL draft history. The craziest thing was that he basically had the same combine measurables as Julius Peppers and that was the player he was brought in to replace...talk about destiny. I loved Peppers and Hardy is as good now, even at this earl stage in his career and has a better motor and attitude than Peppers. Those type of players build franchises and change the culture of those franchises.

If the running game gets going this year, all these gloom and do omers are gonna be changing their tune really quick as our defense shuts down any and every offense and our running game demoralizes defenses built to stop the pass but get run over up the middle and watch the clock tick away while they try to catch their breath. And when they get frustrated and start concentrating on the run, here comes the pass.

Our core is the youngest and most dynamic in the league and can be around and intact for the next 7-8 years playing in their prime. We're stacked up the middle and on the edges of our D and will find the pieces to fill in the gaps to take advantage of our strength.

You dont forfeit the core of your team to try and find role players to fill holes in place of all-pro superstars...it's just not smart and it takes away from the identity and marketability of the franchise.

So many here are undervaluing Hardy, maybe because of the bad taste Peppers left in our mouth, forgetting that he basically single-handedly carried our team to the NFC championship over Atlanta. Hardy is that valuable and having the players around him like CJ, TD and Kuech makes him that much more valuable.

Get these ridiculous trade dreams out of your heads and dreams of aging has-been FAs coming in and embrace our Panther Drafted and developed young-Kraken and company.

I don't think people are undervaluing Hardy in a vacuum, they are undervaluing him in relation to the team's financial health as a whole currently and in the future. Hardy is a true panther and he should be here with us. However I think most people put him 3rd behind Cam and Luke, which is where the problem is. Cam and Luke are gonna command max deals and Hardy appears to be commanding that too. When you look at his cost compared to Luke's potential cost and their relative perceived value to the team as a whole, Hardy becomes 'expendable'. Even though the talent and person is not actually expendable and is a big piece of the franchise, we're looking at who is the most important of our most important young guys. Hardy is very valuable and benefits from the Dline the same as Luke, but Hardy is not the defensive quarterback. So if we have to get rid of one it would appear to be Hardy who has to go.

There are plenty of trades that teams get good returns for their player, not all trades are beason trades.

This isn't a pro trade Hardy post but I'm just saying there is a logic for not keeping Hardy and there is a potential to get a good trade for him. It's not out of this world.

Nothing is going to happen until Hardy sees what other teams will want to pay him.  That will help establish his worth and by looking at whom is interested we get a sense of whether a trade is even possible. You can't trade him unless you have some kind of compensation set up as far as picks on our side and how much money they are going to pay him.  None of that can be worked out until the free agency period starts on the 8th.  Until then the negotiating hasn't gotten real.  He still wants too much money and Gettleman is always fine with letting the market establish a player's worth if the player thinks it is way more than the team is wiling to spend.

OMG. Do you not understand this is only the beginning of the offseason? We aren't fuging suiting up to play next week.

Damn. LET THE poo PLAY OUT.

Yea its the point of the year where most teams have hopes for FA. We dont get that because we have a little more than 40% of the cap devoted to two positions and holes everywhere.

(h) If a Franchise Player receives a Nonexclusive Franchise Player Tender pursuant to Section 2(a)(i) above, any provision in an Offer Sheet to such player waiving or limiting the New Club’s ability to designate the player as a Franchise Player or Transition Player in the future shall not be a Principal Term, and therefore need not be included in a contract formed with the Prior Club as a result of matching such an Offer Sheet (but shall be included in a contract formed with the New Club as a result of the Prior Club not matching such an Offer Sheet). This Subsection (h) shall not apply to a player who was designated as a Transition Player in lieu of designated as a Franchise Player, pursuant to Section 3(a) below, or to any other Transition Player.

You know, you're right.

I am sure Gettleman and crew are perfectly content with our current cap situation and don't plan on reworking any deals, making any cuts, nothing. We are so perfectly content that we might just skip the draft too!

There comes a time when fans need to sit back, STFU, and let things play out before they throw in the towel and start bitching about every little thing they can find to bitch about.
