Hardy Update: He signs tender, long term talks continue

I'm not sure on the whole regrouping thing.  Do we have some serious FA holes?  Yep.  The good news is that this draft is VERY deep at positions of need, and that's going to push down FA prices big time.  So while I don't know if we'll be NFC South Champs again, I do think we'll be in the hunt for sure.  It's not like anyone in the South is really set up to dominate everyone else at this moment.

Here's to great scout work and decisions made.  If we can get some impact/talent out of this draft and pull some good FA bargains (like Ginn and Mitchell were last year), then we'll be competitive.

On the Hardy opinion, I do think that he's going to sign a long term deal.  The tag shows that we're committed to him, we just need some time to get the other contracts settled.

I say regrouping on the basis that GH is the obvious priority. So then, assuming he gets the deal in which you and I think, our pockets will be very tight. We must have some leftover paper at the end of the offseason because Cam is due next year. take a look at how many FA we have decide on and the money involved. If we go hard in FA in addition to signing GH and maxing the money, we will be losing many players, hence, regrouping. If necessary I'd rather it be this year than next year. We need Ginn, Mitchell, Mikell if we cut Godfrey, and Dwan is useful to our scheme for the short term.

In reference to the division, don't sleep on Atlanta this year, they were hit with injuries and have a solid offensive base in comparison to the current state of the Bucs and Saints. If we want the title again, it will be on our secondary and more so our offensive production. Hence, WR/OL/CB.

If I understand it right the Panthers can trade Hardy any time they want BUT Hardy himself can't actively seek out a new deal with another team. So basically everything now has to go through the Panthers if a trade is going to go down but its not off the table.

I just don't see it happening. Rivera and Getts really want to hang on to Hardy, let's just hope its not for 13 mil....

more like let's hope the dude is willing to take a few mill less this yr to sign long term. But if he chooses not to there's nothing anyone can do about it

So at this point the only options the team has are to sign him to a long term deal, play him under the 1 yr deal, or trade him to another team - is that right?

And because Hardy has signed the tender, it seems like other teams aren't going to be discussing contract terms with Hardy - which probably makes a trade much less likely. It always seemed to me that the likeliest route to a trade was a team agreeing to terms with Hardy but asking the Panthers for a trade to avoid the two first round picks penalty.

That is correct.

Quit being greedy you overrated bastard.

I doubt they get him or Rosenhaus to agree to anything. Dude gets escorted in Bentley's from airports. Dude only makes $500k but acts & spends like he makes $500m.

He wants money. And he'll never live up to it whenever he gets it.

tell em' why you mad son! lol.... seriously though, this is the life of pro athletes bro and the concept could bring revelation for you as well. listen, as a man thinks in his heart, so is he! Amen.....so then.....

Unless DG hits every pick out of the park its a rebuilding year. More than likely Can will be running for his life this year or teams will be putting up 30 became we have a terrible secondary.

I'm glad Hardy signed. But I see one of 2 things happening. a) They end up signing him to a long term deal sometime in the next few weeks to a month.  They may end up trading him sooner or later. I just can't see the Panthers letting him play out this one year contract and then letting him walk next off season. That would defeat the purpose and it would be dumb. Wasting 13 million one guy who yes is solid and a good player. But we have so many holes to fills between now and July. With the cap about 60% taken up by GH one year deal. We will be hurting soon enough. So one of my two options will happen sooner of later. That's just my prediction.

The Bills went through this same thing last year.....they tagged a safety (can't think of his name) and as of yesterday they still haven't worked out a LT deal and are facing having to tag him again but when you tag a player for the second year in a row there is some sort of an additional 20% charge added to the tag or something crazy like that. That's just bullshit!

Didn't Hardy say he would sign if he was tagged?

At the least we won't have to worry about contract BS this summer... he'll play and they can focus on other stuff... this year anyway.

But why sign him for one season and risk him walking next off season. All this would have been wasted time and money. We need to make it worth our time. I just don't see him playing on thie one year. Something is going to happen in the coming days or weeks ahead. Either we sign him long term or we will trade him for a few picks.

I'm still not convinced that we're going to have a tremendously bad year.  I mean, if we lose Mitchel and Captain, then we're going to need starters.  But last year we started an undrafted rookie in White, had another play significant snaps, Lester, with a large dose of Drayton Florence, who graded pretty badly in the CB stuff.  So I don't see people dropping 30 on us a game.

We were the #2 scoring D when our best CB was the much maligned (around here) Captain Munnerlyn.  Mitchell brought a lot of confidence and played well.  They still need to figure out a way to bring him back, but he might have a hotter market than we can afford.  He seemed to want to come back so I wonder what the fair market value will be on his services.

As we play more of the what-if game, lets also consider that our GM knows a lot more about moving money, player evaluations, and everything football related.  He helped to build a great Giants team that played very well once Eli's light came on (Elite?!?  remember those comments).  Add talent to the back end with cheap FAs (ditto from last year), a draft pick if there's some value, and see if we can bring Mitchell back for a fair contract.  I still think we spend most of next season in the top 10 defenses.

EDIT:  Oh, and I must include my prominent thought when talking about cutting and replacing guys.  Where is the replacement.  I will conceded to Snake that there aren't any real replacements on the roster, which is kind of scary =)

Well, if they couldn't make a long term deal with him, what options did we have?

Franchise or let him walk correct?

We'd get what, a 3rd round compensatory pick or something?  Maybe...?

This way we get another year out of  him, time to make a deal and the potential for 2 1st rounders if a team wants him bad enough...
